To My Sunflower

A poem to someone else

You probably know who you are

And maybe you'll think it's cringey

But this is a letter from my heart

Though some might say it's silly

This is kind of a Christmas "present"

Probably one of the weirdest

But I hope you know that

When writing this poem I did my best

Do you know why I call you a sunflower

Once I gave you an explanation

But there was a part I didn't tell you

And you wouldn't rack it up with your imagination

In art class, I saw a painting of

The rose of the Little Prince

One and only in the whole world

And I kept thinking about it since

She was unique to him

She tamed him, he tamed her

As friends do

To one another

And with all the roses in the world

She was different because

She was the only one he loved

And it reminded me of you 'cause

In a world full of flowers

Who all look the same

You shine bright and because of you

So bright my life became

And why a sunflower you might ask

Because you light up my life

Your beautiful petals

They shine bright through pain and strife

And in fields

Where most flowers would wilt

You survive

In rocks and silt

And I will end this by saying

That I love you and I care about you

Like friends do for one another

No matter what comes our way (or who)
