Ever since the day Jimin and Minjeong met, Minjeong had been so desperately, helplessly in love with the other. Everytime she looked at Jimin she could not help but stare at her with the most loving eyes. Minjeong had always wanted to confess but was too afraid of what would happen to their friendship. That was until the day Jimin told her that she was leaving the country.
"MINDEONGIE!!! I GOT IN! I GOT INTO JULLIARD !" Jimin shouted across the phone.
" OH MY GOD THATS GREAT!" Minjeong exclaimed but tears were escaping her eyes as she thought what it meant for their friendship.
As much as Minjeong was happy for her best friend, the news also meant that her long-time crush and best friend would be leaving her soon. She had one month to think of something before Jimin left for New York. She was still afraid and hesitant to confess but that was not going to stop her from spending more time with the girl.
1 day before Jimin leaves
The pair was heading out of an ice cream shop when suddenly a snowflake fell.
"Mindeongie! Look! It's the first snow!" Jimin exclaimed gleefully as she pointed towards the sky.
Minjeong smiled at the latter as she watched her best friend dance her heart out in the snow. Thinking about how moments like this would never happen again after Jimin leaves for Julliard, Minjeong starts tearing up.
Suddenly, she gets hit in the face by a snowball, "Hey! What was that for!" she shouted as she was instantly transported out of her thoughts.
"Are you just going to stand there or what? Come on!"
,Minjeong looked to the girl," Oh you are so on now." she challenged.
After their snowball fight, which Jimin won because Minjeong obviously helped her win. The girls were lying on a bed of snow next to each other in comfortable silence when Jimin suddenly turns and speaks . "You know, I'm going to miss this when I leave. Hanging out and just doing things like this...."
"Yeah,me too..." Minjeong responded as she turn to her side to meet a teary-eyed girl.
"Oh no baby, don't cry. We will still keep in contact and we can always video call and visit each other. This isn't the end, I promise." Minjeong said as she brought her arm over Jimin, pulling her into a hug. Minjeong's heart shatters as she hugs the girl, thinking about how she will barely get to see the girl anymore. She wished this moment would never end. It was then she decided she had to do something to let the other girl know how she feels before Jimin left.
After they part ways, Minjeong ran home and took out a piece of pen and paper and poured her heart out.
-----------------------------------------
They were at the airport with a bunch of friends and family, everyone was saying their good byes to Jimin. Minjeong being herself, stood at one corner quietly and looked at the letter in her hands and the girl that it was going to go to. She was having second thoughts about giving Jimin the letter, she was going to throw it. But she saw the girl making a beeline towards her and knew it was too late.
"Hey, what do you have there, a letter for me?" Jimin asked as she grinned mischievously.
"Actually, yes. I wrote this last night after our ice cream date......But promise me to only read it when you are on the plane, okay?"
"AWh, thank you jagiya, and yes I will."
Jimin pulled Minjeong into a tight embrace, Minjeong typically didn't like physical contact but just this once she hoped for it to never end.
Just as Jimin walked through the departure gates, she could no longer take it as tears were threatening to leave her eyes, she ran to leave the airport she could no longer hold in her emotions. The journey from the airport to home was a blur, Minjeong had no clue as to how she even drove herself home. She just knew that her best friend was gone and she was now under the covers crying her heart out.
Meanwhile, Jimin was sittimg in her seat waiting for her plane to take off. She opened the letter,
'Dear Jimin,
I have only known you for 2 years but it feels like a lifetime. Seeing you in school was always the best part of my day, you were the reason why I even went to school in the first place. I will never forget the day the kindest and most beautiful girl asked me, Kim Minjeong the social outcast, to join her for lunch. Your smile brightens up the whole room, you radiate a warmth that could melt even the coldest people, your laughs are like the melodies to a song. Your eyes sparkle in the darkest places, you hold the entire universe within those eyes. I love how you always try to include others, I love the way you grimace at the mention of something you dislike, I love the way you walk like you own everything. Most importantly, I love you. I hope this does not come between our friendship and I get if you no longer want to be friends with me after this.Yours forever,
Kim Mindeong'Tears were streaming down Jimin's face as she got to the end of the letter. As she read the letter she realised she too had feelings for the younger girl. She felt the plane starting to take off and she started panicking, 'SHIT HOW AM I GOING TO RESPOND TO HER WITHOUT RECEPTION ON THE PLANE!'
Jimin was forced to think about what to say to Minjeong for the torturous 13 hour flight to New York. She had so much to say to Minjeong.
-----------------------------------------
As soon as she landed, Jimin rushed to a cafe to obtain wifi to contact Minjeong."Hello? Mindeongie?" Jimin's voice quivered as she called the other girl.
"Jimin unnie?! Have you reached New York? How was the flight?" Minjeong said as she tried to sound like she hadn't been crying for the past few hours.
"Minjeong... I read your letter..."
"Oh...uhm the letter was stupid just pretend it never happened. I was going to throw it out honestly." Minjeong responded.
"No, it wasn't and thank god you didn't throw it. I am stupi-"
"You aren't stupid, you could never be. "
"Let me finish. I'm stupid for not noticing how you've felt all this time. I mean who would walk their friend home every single day without fail no matter rain or shine..."
"I guess so...also I get if you don't want to be friends with me anymore."
Minjeong muttered through the phone."Uhm no? I didn't rush to a cafe the moment I landed to call you to tell you I don't want to be friends anymore. In fact...."
Jimin mustered her courage, "I like you. I like you alot actually. I just never realised it, until.... well until I read your letter."
Minjeong couldn't believe what she was hearing, she had never even thought of the possibility that the other would reciprocate her feelings. She did not know how to react to this news.
"Minjeong? Minjeong are you there?" Jimin called out across the line.
"Yeah...yeah... I'm still here right in Seoul, 11 o27kilometres from you." she chuckled as she was reminded of the distance between the both of them.
"We can work this out, you know we can still call and text each other. We can do it, that is if you want to... no pressure though, I don't want to force you, I know a long distance relationship is hard for some people and I'll understand if you don't want to do it, like I totally ge-" Jimin started rambling as she got nervous as to whether or not Minjeong wanted to pursue a relationship with her.
"No yeah definitely I mean yes, Jimin I want to do this with you. I always wanted to, from the moment I met you. I want this." Minjeong cut her off as she blushed. She knew the older girl would start rambling everytime she faced something that made her nervous and this time it was her, butterflies started fluttering in her stomach at the thought that she was the one making Jimin nervous.
"I want this Jimin, with you."
