As Red got ready to go kick some ass, she let herself fall back into the link she shared with Bucky. In their little space, they both appeared inside her old house in Brooklyn.
"You think we'll ever live here again?" Bucky asked as he watched her get ready.
Red nodded as she slipped on her red chainmail sweater. "When SHYDRA fell, Fury gave the place back to me, even completely scrubbed it from the net and all files that recorded it's existence."
"So, when we're together again..." Bucky said, trailing off.
"I'll be safe as houses. Safer, even."
Bucky silently watched her get ready to go, and Red was so hyper aware of his eyes on her that she almost decided against going, she wanted so badly to stay in their little dream world. Their happy place. It pained her that she couldn't.
"Ultron's making a move." She said. "We have to stop him."
Bucky slowly nodded. "I know you'll be fighting a murder bot and his minions, but be careful."
Red almost smiled as she raised her gaze to meet his. "Careful is my middle name."
"Yeah," he said with a half hearted chuckle. "Right next to stupid and reckless."
"Stupid, huh?" She managed to laugh softly as he crossed the room and pulled her against his chest, all while giving her that crooked smiled she loved so much.
"Well, it's not like I can take the stupid with me," he said. "I'm not the one leaving to fight Ultron and three super powered kids."
"Oh," Red said, her tone sarcastic and teasing as she draped her arms over his shoulder. "But the kids are on our side, so it's just Ultron and his army of blood thirsty robots."
"Ah," he said, his arms tightening around her waist as he tired to hold her closer to him. "So, a walk in the park then."
"Yeah, that's what I'm thinking."
Bucky sighed. "Just-"
"Be careful," she whispered as she kissed his jaw. "Don't do anything you would do," she kissed his cheek. "Stay close to Steve." Lastly, she gave him a quick peck on the lips, and even she knew that it wasn't very likely that she'd do that last one. The battle field would more than likely be to chaotic for her to always be able to stay with Steve.
Still, Bucky chuckled at her. "Seems like you've got the speech down."
Red simply shrugged at him. "You've given it to me so many times over the years, I sort of committed it to memory."
They finally fell silent as the gravity of what she was about to do settled in on them. Red had to save the world, or die trying. Either way, the two of them would be reunited. Bucky reached up to brush her hair out of her face as he bent down and leaned his forehead against hers, they both closed their eyes.
"You're worried." He whispered to her.
"Terrified would be a better descriptor." Red admitted, her arms left his shoulders, and she pressed one hand against his chest, while the other stayed on his cheek with her thumb slowly moving against it.
"You guys are going to be just fine." He said, his voice still soft and gentle.
Red shook her head. "It's not me I'm worried about, James. If we fail, the world ends."
"Then fight tooth and nail to save it." He said with a soft smile. "Like you always have."
Red was silent as she let his words sink in. He was right, she'd save the world and come home like she'd always had. She leaned up on her toes and nuzzled her face against his neck. "I wish you were here with me."
Bucky's hand, his human hand, slowly trailed down her neck and down to her chest until his fingers were touched his tags. "I am always with you."
She managed to smile as he took her face away from his neck and pecked his lips. "Always."
He smiled down at her, and it made her heart flutter against her chest. "I love you, you know that?"
"How could I forget?" Her smile widened as he pressed another longer kiss against her lips. She could've stayed like this forever, stayed in their little corner of the universe, but if she stayed, she would lose everything. She would lose him.
Finally, reluctantly, she pulled away from their embrace. "I love you too." She whispered.
Bucky set his hands on her hips. "Go and make me proud." But he ended up pulling her back against him, holding her protectively as if he needed to hold her until she had to end the connection.
"Always." She whispered before he, and the scene, faded to smoke around her.
Red sighed as she touched the tags around her neck, then she turned around and left the room as she went to the Quinjet. She made her way to the jet quickly so she wouldn't be able to give herself the chance to go back to him.

Levi glanced over to Steve as she shoved her feet into her boots. Could this be the last time they'd get to be in the same room together? She sighed as she decided to break the silence. "You ever think about what we'll do when the fighting is over?"
"Sometimes," Steve said as he glanced back at her. "What do you picture?"
"Getting married." She said as she leaned down to lace up her boots, "living the simple life like what Clint and Laura have."
"Having kids?"
"The whole nine." Levi said as she stood up and approached him. "Is that something you'd want?"
"Levinia..." He said, his voice barely above a whisper as he turned to face her. "I want everything with you."
She smiled as she looked up at him and reached up to touch his cheek, a spark leaving her fingers and moving over his skin before it dissipated. "Promise me that when the fighting is done, we'll start our lives together."
He smiled, partially closing his eyes as the electricity made its way through his body. "I promise that I will give you anything, and everything, you want when the fighting is over."
"Anything?" She repeated, a smile playing at her lips as he raised an eyebrow at him.
"Anything." He confirmed with a nod for his head.
Levi's smile slowly shifted into a smirk as she stepped closer to him, her hand shifting down to press against his stomach as she pressed herself against her captain. "So, when the last one comes, I'll be yours in every way humanly possible?"
"That," he said, setting his hands low on her hips, the tips of his fingers almost dipping into the waist band of her pants. "Is exactly what that means."
"Then I believe we have ourselves a deal, Captain."
He chuckled as he finally let his fingers dip passed the waistband of her pants, causing her to gasp as he pulled her against him. He leaned down and captured her lips with his. They stayed like that for a few seconds, both of them seemingly frozen as they enjoy the kiss and each other's bodies.
Then, he cups her backside in both hands as he lifted her up and placed her back down on a table. He stood between her legs, pressing himself against her as his tongue entered her mouth.
And it was bliss.
Levi felt all of the anxiety about this next fight melt away and all she could think of was how his lips felt against hers, the feel of his hands as they groped at, and roamed around, her body.
And then the memory of their first kiss, their first real one, hit her, and it was so similar to this one that it made her giggle.
He pulled away, clearly breathless, but smiling. "What's so funny?"
"This is exactly how we kissed when we went off to fight SHYDRA." She said, her chest also heaving for air.
"You aren't wrong," he kissed her nose, then suddenly got serious. She knew what was coming. The 'I love you' that was more of a good-bye. "Levinia, I-"
Her heart gave a painful squeeze as she took a gentle hold of his jaw and pulled him in for one last kiss before she leaned her forehead against his. "Tell me when we've won."
"Okay." He said as he helped her down from the table. "I can do that."
They leave their floor, and their moment, behind them, walking hand in hand as they did. Levi took this moment to say good-bye to him, but more importantly to the wonderful life she had been able to live since she had been able to escape Thanos, even if that part was short lived.
It was a freedom she was thankful for, even if she might die today.

Inside the Quinjet, while Clint brought the team to Sokovia, Tony sat at his computers as he got FRIDAY hooked up to his, Red, and Levi's suits.
"Good evening, Boss." FRIDAY said.
He turned to look at the small group standing beside him. It was made up of Steve, Levi, Red and Dawn. All four of them looked how he felt. Scared, but hopeful. But Levi looked like he was the only one who had said good-bye to everything.
"No way we all get through this," he said as he met eyes with the captain. "If even one ton soldier is left standing, we've lost. It's gonna be blood on the floor." And it was likely Red's blood that was going to spill first.
Steve simply shrugged. "I've got no plans tomorrow night."
Levi almost smiled. "Yeah, we're planless."
"I dunno." Red said with a smirk. "I could go shopping tomorrow, I need some new shoes." She turned to look at Dawn. "Dawny, what do you think?"
"Oh yeah," she agreed, nodding as she crossed her arms over her chest and smirked. "Shopping and Starbucks. Two things I haven't had in years."
Red's smirk turned into a smile. "Sounds like we have plans then."
They all chuckled but it was short lived as the reality of what they were about to do set in again. "I get first crack at the big guy." Tony said. "Iron Man's the one he's waiting for."
"That's true." Vision said from the front of the jet. "He hates you the most."
Finally, as if on que, Steve turned to face the occupants of the jet, and gave his big speech. Tony didn't really mind, this could be the last one he's ever going to have to suffer through.
"Ultron knows we're coming." He said. "Odds are we'll be riding into heavy fire, and that's what we signed up for. But the people of Sokovia, they didn't. So, our priority is getting them out."
+++
As Steve gave his speech, the team got to work on getting Sokovia evacuated. Pietro ran into a police station. "We're under attack! Clear the city now!" When the police didn't take him seriously, and didn't move, Pietro rolled his eyes and disappeared, only to reappear with a rifle, which he fired into the air. He smirked as they finally looked up from what they were doing and all looked at him. "Get off your asses."
Deeper in the city, Dawn and Wanda used their mind powers on the people of Sokovia, and as streams of red and green magic flowed through the streets, Red and Levi were flying groups of people out of their homes, both of them wearing the suits that Tony had made for them.
And all the while, they can hear Steve's speech.
"All they want is to live their lives in peace, and that's not going to happen today, but we can do our best to protect them." Steve was saying. "And we can get the job done, and find out what Ultron's been building. We find Romanoff, and we clear the field. Keep the fight between us. Ultron thinks we're monsters, and we're what's wrong with the world. This isn't about beating him, it's about whether he's right."
"All right," Red said as he finished her second lap around her side of the city. "That's everyone on the southside. Lev, how's your side?"
"We're good over here." Levinia said.
Steve's voice joined the comms. "Any word on Sam and Nat?"
Red shook her head. "Not yet."
+++
Inside her cell, Natasha's heart leaped to her throat as she heard Sam's voice calling her name. "Natasha?" He called, his voice echoing through Ultron's armory. "Sunshine?"
She quickly stood up and pressed her body against the bars of her cell. "Sam?!"
"Yeah," he said, smiling and relieved as he approached the bars and reached through them to touch her cheek. "You okay?"
"Yeah," she whispered, closing her eyes and leaning into his touch. "What are you doing here?"
"The rest of the team's in the city, things are about to pop off."
Natasha raised an eyebrow. "You're fighting with the Big Boys now?"
He kept touching her. Her cheeks, her throat-it was as if he couldn't believe she was there, and she was using it all to anchor herself into place. "Ultron crossed a line when he took you." He said, his voice still soft. "Of course I'd step up to help you guys fight."
Natasha smiled as she looked at him through the bars of the cell. "I don't suppose you found a key lying around somewhere?"
"Oh yeah, I found one Hell of a key." He held up a Chitauri rifle. "Step back and cover your face."
Natasha quickly took a few steps back and covered her face. Honestly, even if she did get hit with something in this place, it can't be as bad as what will be hitting her out there. As soon as that door door was blasted open, she ran straight into his arms.
He held her protectively, with one arm around her waist, and the other hand held the back of her head. "I was..." she whispered as she tucked her arm between them. "So scared."
"I know," he whispered as he kissed the side of the head. "I know, but you're safe now."
"As safe as I can be with what's about to go down."
Sam took a gentle hold of her chin and pressed a quick but loving kiss against her lips. "Then lets make sure that you can be safe again." The fact of the matter was that she rarely felt safe, but only ever felt really safe around him.
Even though they were about to fight a horde of Ultron Bots and, hopefully, save the world again, she would feel safe knowing that he was here with her.
+++
Tony tried to steady his nerves as he flew over the city, both over seeing the evacuation and trying to figure out where Ultron was. He didn't have time to ask the triplets where he most likely would be.
"Your man's in the church, boss." FRIDAY said. "I think he's waiting for you."
He sighed as he flew down to the church, which resided in the center of the city, he'd ask one of the Maximoffs about that later. His face plate foes down as he enters the building.
"Come to confess your sins?" Ultron asked as he turned to face Tony.
"I don't know," Tony said with a shrug. "How much time you got?"
"More than you."
"Uhh, have you been juicing?" Tony asked as he slowly walked the permitter of the church, he was trying to see if he could figure out what Ultron was up to without getting caught. "A little Vibranium cocktail? You're looking-I don't wanna say puffy-" He also wanted to stall, but Ultron figured that out easily.
"You're stalling to protect the people." He said.
"Well, that is the mission." Tony said, pausing in his pacing to look at the android. "Did you forget?"
"I've moved beyond your mission." Ultron said as the ground beneath their feet started to shake. "I'm free."
Tony didn't know how he somehow missed the Vibranium Core that rested at the center of the church. He was so preoccupied with getting the city cleared out for the fight, but it was too late now.
"What?" Ultron asked, and Tony was sure that if he could smirk, Ultron would have. "You think you're the only one stalling?"
"There's the Vibranium." FRIDAY said. "Function: Unknown."
Ultron held out his arms. "This is how you end, Tony. This is peace in my time."
+++
The city shook under Levi's feet, and at that same moment Ultron's army attacked the city. They hadn't even been able to finish evacuating the place. She turned to look at Red and Dawn, who had a group of people around them.
"Shit shit shit." Dawn said as a green barrier formed around her and the civilians.
"Dawn, get them out of here!" Red yelled.
Dawn teleported the group she was with off of the bridge before she came back, took another group and left again. While she took the groups of people, the rest of them got everyone that was left running in the opposite direction of the Ultron murder bots.
"Go!" Yelled Steve.
"Get off the bridge!" Wanda said. "Run!"
Levi guided as many people as she could down the bridge as she waited for the attack to come. "What the Hell is happening?"
Red bit down on her lip as she started to shake her head, then she sighed as her armor formed around the exposed parts of her body. "Ultron's making a move."
For the first time in her life, Levi felt like a small child, and that wasn't that far off, by Asgardian standards, she was a child. She was scared, and needed someone to tell her what to do. She followed her mother's lead and let her armor form over her body. "What are we going to do?"
"What else can we do?" Red said as she looked up at the sky, and then to the city behind them. "We fight."
Dawn appeared and walked forward to stand beside Wanda. "Kind of wish he was here."
Levi couldn't help it, she needed something to keep her mind off of what was about to come. "Who?"
"Derek." Dawn said with a fond and knowing smile. "He used to visit me in the lab."
It suddenly clicked why Dawn's teleportation looked so familiar, because she borrowed the ability from Derek. "That's why you can teleport." Levi said. "He used to do it all the time."
Dawn raised an eyebrow at her. "You know him?"
Levi laughed. "Know him?" She repeated. "I grew up with him."

While the rest of the team got ready to take on the incoming first wave, Vision found Ultron in the church, and Tony was leaving it as he monitored what was going on in the city.
"Ultron." Vision said as he landed before him.
"My Vision." Ultron said. "They really did take everything from me."
Vision was almost said about what he had to do next. But it was for the greater good, humanity wouldn't survive Ultron. "You set the terms, you can change them."
"All right." Ultron said with a shrug, and then they started their own fight.
Vision used this opportunity to start to burn Ultron off of the net. It would only take a few seconds. He just had to keep him busy.
+++
The moment Vision engaged in his fight with Ultron, Tony flew off to give the rest of his team backup. "FRIDAY!" He yelled as he flew between the buildings. "The Vision?"
"Boss, it's working. He's burning Ultron out of the net. He can't escape through there."
+++
Vision floated back and away from him as Ultron pushed him. "You shut me out!" He yelled, and Vision couldn't help but imagine that he looked like a small child that was retaliating because he got in trouble. "You think I care? You take away from my world, I take yours."
Before Vision can stop him, he activates the main function of the Vibranium Core. The city started to shake as if was going through the earth quake.
The fight has begun.
+++
Tony's heart sank to his stomach as he saw cracks form around the boarders of Sokovia, and in between the buildings. He knew what was happening, but he didn't want to believe it. "FRIDAY?" He asked.
"Sokovia's going for a ride." She said.
+++
Red felt the earth jerk violently, and she started to hover above the ground. Steve caught Levi as she stumbled, while Dawn and Wanda held on to each other.
"What the fuck?" Levi asked.
"I was just thinking that." Red said as she turned around, only to come face to face with an Ultron bot. She wished she gave a better reaction, a braver one. But she could only freeze in place as it spoke to her.
"Do you see? The beauty of it, the inevitability. You rise, only to fall. You, Avengers, you are my meteor, my swift and terrible sword, and the earth will crack with the weight of your failure. Purge me from your computers, turn my own flesh against me. It means nothing. When the dust settles, the only thing living in this world will be metal."
Finally, Red found her voice, and she raised her chin, trying to appear braver than she felt. "And you will be stopped."
"You think so?"
"I know so." She answered.
And she hoped and prayed she was right. That they'd save the day like they always had in the past.

Sam stayed close to Natasha as they made their way to the city that was starting to leave the ground. The next part of the plan was... something that would likely get himself, and Bruce, killed. The ground suddenly jerked underneath their feet.
Just then, Bruce appeared, as he slipped on a patch of snow and stumbled up to them. "We gotta move."
Natasha was clearly surprised to see him this close to all the action, let alone somehow involved in her rescue. "What are you doing here?"
Bruce glanced at Sam, asking for permission before he told Nat the news. Sam nodded and prepared himself for the yelling match he was about to have. "To get you back to the jet." He said with a sigh.
Sam watched as her surprise turned to shock and betrayal. "I'm going back to the jet?" She likely didn't mean for it to come out as a question, but she was too shocked and awed by their betrayal that she probably couldn't keep it out of her voice.
Sam blanched as he felt guilt stab in his stomach. "Sunshine-"
"Fuck that." Natasha said as she tore her gaze from him and turned it back to Bruce. "We need a Code Green."
Bruce shook his head as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his hoodie. "We're in a city."
"Full of Ultron Bots that you helped create." Natasha said as she glanced behind. Sam followed her gaze and sighed internally, how didn't he notice that cliff before she did? And why didn't he try to stop he when she threw herself at Bruce? It was likely because he knew that she was right. They needed both her and Bruce in this fight. He fell over the edge and jumped back up, big and green and angry.
Sam raised an eyebrow at her. "Was that really necessary?"
"We need the other guy." Natasha said as they watched the Hulk run off. Her eyebrows came together as she turned to fully face Sam. "You were gonna put me on the jet?" She still looked betrayed by the thought that he and Bruce had schemed to try and get her on the jet, though realistically he knew that neither of them could force her onto the jet and survive to tell the tale.
"It wasn't my idea." Sam said, not without some hesitation. "But I was for it, I wanted you safe too."
"I adore you, love you even." She said as she pulled him in for a kiss, and while it was brief, Sam could feel the tension that the betrayal had caused leave her body before she pulled away from his lips. "But my family is out there, and I can't leave them to fight alone."
"Our family." Sam said, gently correcting her as he held the sides of her face and gave her another gentle and brief kiss. "I love you too."
They didn't waste another second as they ran after Hulk and into the fight.

Tony flew over Sokovia, trying desperately to find a way to stop the city from flying, or at least break it apart with as little damage to the world at large as possible, but he was coming up blank. He didn't know how to fix this one.
"The Vibranium Core has got a magnetic core." FRIDAY told him. "That's what's keeping the rock together."
"If it drops?" He asked.
"Right now the impact would kill thousands. Once it gets high enough: global extinction."
As Tony started another lap around the city, the ground gave another violent shake, and a building near him started to collapse. FRIDAY took a scan of it without him even asking. "That building is not clear, tenth floor."
Tony flew into the building, and found a family in their apartment. He was disappointed that Dawn and Wanda hadn't been able to get them out, but magic was tricky, and he couldn't really get upset about it.
"Hi. Okay!" Tony said as he spotted the bath tub in the corner of the room. "Get in the tub!" He quickly flew the family in the tub out of the building as it collapsed. He set the tub down near a group of cars.
He turned to walk back to the fight. "What's Red's status?"
"She and Levinia are going well, they're both fighting about a mile North-West of you. Dawn is with them."
"She should stay with Steve."
+++
Red couldn't see Steve anywhere. Not in the vast armies comprised of Ultron's bots. It surprised her that he even managed to build this many in this short of an amount of time. She also couldn't see Wanda, but hoped for Dawn's sake that she was okay.
She took two of the bots by the throat, and let her fire seep out of her hands, and it melted them in her grasp. She glared as she tossed them aside and moved on to the next one. The only saving grace was that neither she, nor Levi, showed any sign of growing tired.
Levinia's lightning crackled through the air and struck into three others. Her hands glowed a bright blue as she turned around and threw another bolt passed Red and at the bots that were starting to surround them.
They were trying to separate them from Dawn, and they were succeeding. Red saw Dawn's green magic surge through the air, taking apart three at a time, but it was of no use, even Red, as hopefully as she was-could see it. There were too many.
"We could use some backup!" Levi said as she and Red went back to back. It was silly to think about how much taller her daughter was than her, but it was better than thinking about the possibility of death. "We're surrounded!"
"I'm on my way."
Red hit the ground with the end of her staff, fire fanned out on the ground before them and she was able to down the first row of bots as they advanced on them. There was no time for her to admire how her fire looked as it fanned out and dissipated around her and Levi. "These creepy fuckers won't stop coming."
"Hurry!" Levi yelled, panic was loud and clear in her voice.
Red looked around them, but all she could see was Death coming fast and clear for them.
+++
Steve felt his heart squeeze painfully in his chest as he heard Levi's voice. She was scared, it was clear that she was, and it killed him that there was nothing he could do about it right now, he was too far away from her, and beyond that, even if he was close enough, there wouldn't be any time to comfort her.
"Cap," Tony said as he flew over head and provided air support. "You got incoming."
"Incoming already came in." Steve paused in his fight to get back to Levi and Red. He needed to not panic, panicking in a fight like this only led to death. "Stark, you worry about bringing the city down safely, the rest of us have one job: tear these things apart. You get hurt, hurt 'em back. You get killed-" he paused in his speech as another bot approached him. He quickly dispatched it and threw it over the bridge. "Walk it off."
"That's a really comforting thought, Steve. Thanks." Red said with a grunt. Steve smiled as he jogged toward them.
Dawn spoke next, and she sounded breathless. "I think I'm the only one who might be able to walk it off."
Steve would've smiled as their banter if he wasn't so damned worried about them. He heard Levi groan before she said. "Shut your wannabe Asher-" she broke off with a horrified scream of. "Red! Look out."
His job quickly became a sprint.
+++
Red spun around just in time to be tackled by one of the Ultron bots. They crashed through a building that was well on the way to collapsing. She wheezed as the wind was knocked out of her lunged. This was it, she thought, this is the end.
She wriggled and writhed, trying to get free, but she was failing. It had its hand around her throat, and already she could see black dots starting to spot her vision. It wouldn't let go, even as her fire melted it's face.
Red could hear the building start to fall, and she closed her eyes. "Good-bye." She whispered. At least this time, the link would really die, and Bucky-her James, would be able to move on without feeling guilty. He would be free, and she would see her father again.
Suddenly, Pietro ran in and kicked the bot off of her. She coughed as air suddenly and quickly filled her lungs. He picked her up, and ran her out of the building as it crashed to the ground.
"You okay?" Pietro asked as he held her, semi-protectively, against his chest.
"Yeah." Red said as her hands quickly searched her chest and neck. She was relieved-unbelievably relieved, when she found his tags still around her neck. "Yeah. Thanks."
He set her back down on her feet, and they turned to get back into the fight.
+++
Wanda wasn't exactly sure how she ended up on the other side of the city with Clint Barton, but one thing she was sure of was that the two of them were being overwhelmed with the monsters she helped create.
Clint took hold of her arm and pushed her toward a warehouse of some type. "Go, go, move!" He yelled.
The moment those doors closed behind them, Wanda fell to the ground and broke down crying. "How could we let this happen?"
"Hey," Clint said as he knelt down to her level. "Hey, you okay?"
"This is all my fault." She whimpered.
"Hey, look at me." He said, and looked at her very seriously as she raised her gaze to meet his. "It's your fault, it's everyone's fault, who cares? Are you up for this? Are you?" He sighed. "Look, I just need to know 'cause the city is flying." He paused as he opened the door, just enough to be able to look outside, just enough to watch the robots still wreaking havoc on the city. Her city. "Okay, look, the city is flying, we're fighting an army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow. None of this makes sense, but I'm going back out there because it's my job, okay? And I can't do my job and babysit." Wanda didn't say anything in reply, but at least her moment of hysteria was interrupted by confusion, which was really better than nothing.
Clint sighed as she said nothing, and continued staring at him blankly. "It doesn't matter what you did, or what you were. If you got out there, you fight, and you fight to kill. Stay in here, you're good. I'll send your brother to find you, but if you step out that door, you are an avenger."
Wanda couldn't find anything to say, she could see why Red and Levinia called him Team Dad. He was great at making you feel good about yourself when you were scared out of your mind. She felt bad that all she could do was stare at him in silent confusion.
Clint simply nodded. "Alright, good chat." He stood up and took a breath, readying himself to get back to the fight. "Yeah, the city is flying." And he left her to make her choice.
He just hoped at she made the right one.
