The Lines We've Crossed || Rafe Cameron
"Shh! Shh!" I heard outside my bedroom door. What the hell, I thought to myself. My brother better not be up to his childish antics again!
"Dude, did you forget how to open your door?" I heard a faint voice say outside of my bedroom door. "I-I-I didn't." I listened to my brother say, and I couldn't help but laugh.
I stood up from the comfortable reading nook I had made for myself and went to open my bedroom door to see what all the fuss was.
I swung my bedroom door open, and immediately the smell of alcohol filled my nostrils. In front of me stood, my older brother Tyler and his 3 idiotic friends- Rafe Cameron, Topper Thornton, and Kelce Bern.
"What're you doing?" I asked as all four boys looked in my direction. "uh..." Topper said looking at me with a squint of his eyes, crossing my arms and waiting for someone to speak, I noticed all of their eyes seemed to droop low into a squint.
"The door isn't opening," Tyler told me and I chuckled at him pulling at his door to open. "Step aside boys!" I said stepping between both Topper and Rafe to get to Tyler's room door. I twisted the handle and pushed, "Oh my god!" I let out a dramatic gasp, and Tyler grabbed onto my shoulders scared.
"What?!?!?" He asked alarmed, "It's... push you, dummies!" I told them before stepping into the room and holding the door open for the boys to walk in.
As the group of boys with their heads in the clouds walked in, I couldn't help but notice one of the boys keeping his eyes on me. "Thank you, Heather." The brown-haired boy said as he looked down at me, his height making it hard for me to look at him.
"You're welcome," I said to the boy, and he gave me a soft smile.
Looking over the group, I take it the boys didn't care for themselves as much as they should. "hey, did you guys eat anything? Or drink any water?" I asked Rafe as he rubbed his eyes, followed by a yawn.
"Umm. I don't think they did." He told me and I looked at him questionably. "They?" I asked and he nodded, "yeah, uh, I was the designated driver." he told me and I nodded understanding now.
"Oh, goodie! So you could help me take care of them." I gave him a pat on the shoulder before walking over to each drunk man, "you guys hungry?" I asked and Kelce's head propped up as he lay face down on Tyler's bed.
"I could go for a grilled cheese!" He said looking around at his friends for approval or to see if anyone else wanted one. "Oh.. heather makes the best grilled cheese," Tyler spoke highly of me. I shook my head at the praise my older brother was now giving me. "Anyone else wants grilled cheese?" I asked and the boys raised their hands like children in school.
"Alrighty, Rafe we need to keep them awake. Collect them all and bring them over to the kitchen table." I demanded before exiting the room and began to make my way over to the kitchen.
Chef Heather is in town!!!!
Standing in the kitchen trying to collect all the needed ingredients for the grilled cheese, I began to count heads to know how many sandwiches to make.
"One for Tyler, Kelce, Topper, and Rafe. So that's..." I paused to count how much bread and cheese was needed. As I put the bread out for each boy, I felt the weight of someone's body bump into me.
"Oh, sorry!" the familiar voice said to me.
"Rafe, you startled me!" I exclaimed, clutching my chest. He chuckled softly, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
