EVERYONE WAS PRETTY SILENT AS THEY HEADED OFF INTO THE WOODS. the woods were a hundred yards from the main road, in a marshy clearing. it wasn't the best but it would do for the night. the ground was littered with flattened soda cans and fastfood wrappers. bowie made a comment about how they didn't have to worry about feeding grover.
they'd taken some food and blankets from medusas but didn't dare to light a fire to dry their damp clothes ----- the Furies and medusa were enough monsters to deal with for one day. they didn't need to attract anymore unwanted attention.

"so," percy drew little drawings in the mud with a stick, "any other deadly monsters we could encounter on this quest?"
bowie shrugged her shoulders, "I wouldn't be surprised if fucking. . . I don't know, typhon showed up to kill us at this point." she looked up at the sky.
annabeth followed her gaze, and after a few seconds, tears pricked at the corners of her eyes.

bowie wordlessly slipped annabeth a singular tissue and gave her a little smile.

"typhon?" percy asked, oblivious to who that was.
"the father of all monsters." annabeth's tone sounded like how she tended to speak to the younger campers. "we covered this in a lesson, percy." she told him.
"what's your problem with me?" percy asked, "you're always so angry at me."
grover groaned in annoyance and bowie gave him a pat on the head and then made some movements with her hands and pointed between percy and annabeth.

"what are you saying?" annabeth asked the daughter of ares.
bowie gave her a grin, "about how amusing your rivalry is, nothing else. isn't that right, grover?" she nudged him with her elbow.
"yep! about your rivalry! definitely!" grover said unconvincingly.
annabeth narrowed her eyes at the two of them but ended up not questioning them any further.

"well, I'm tired." bowie said, grabbing a blanket to wrap herself in as she laid on the ground, "night night."
"we should sleep in shifts." annabeth decided, "that way no monster can sneak up on us while we sleep." she grabbed some blankets and settled down next to bowie.
"I'll take first watch then." percy volunteered.

"Okay. wake me up in a bit for my watch." annabeth laid down and fell asleep pretty quickly.

bowie was awake for about another hour before she ended up falling asleep. when she did, she was greeted by the sight of Michael Yew once again.

They were still at the swimming pool, though sitting at the edge, legs swinging back and forth through the cold water. they were sat next to eachother, a few inches between them. for a few minutes, they were sat in complete silence. bowie kept stealing glances at michael, who had bandages around his arms.
