Riya
I sit back on my balcony with a cigarette perched in my mouth.
My black ink hair sits perfectly on my shoulders as I stare at the stars.
When I was younger I always thought the stars were small angels sent by god to watch over us during the night time.
Sleep is not an option for me, I struggle falling asleep because of dreams that haunt me.
I wish I could do normal things without feeling isolated all the time. I've always loved astronomy; it's where my comfort lies.
I stand up walking back inside my room.My room has a nice black interior with white sheets and blankets. I have a desk to my right filled with documents and papers that are all related to my moms death.
The police confirmed she was dead a long time ago when they couldn't find her.
They gave up on her and basically shattered my heart when everybody believed she was gone
Her appearance being gone was very suspicious at first. She was barely at home and we ate outside food almost every single day instead of her home cooked meals.
I pinpointed many details regarding what could have happened.
just when I was about to find a lead,
One of my very important pieces of evidence was gone without a trace, specifically a piece of hair, I've done one type of test on it.
All I know is the person who may have a connection to the murder is a boy, not just any boy a full grown adult.
I carefully tip toe downstairs making myself coffee. I grab coffee beans and grind them just when the light turns on. Oh no here we go again.
"Riya, would you mind explaining to me what you're doing awake at 3:34 AM?" dad says leaning against the wall.
"coffee break" I shrug and continue making my coffee.
"Is this the appropriate time to be making coffee?" he asks curiously
"I want coffee so I drink coffee" I turn to look him dead in the eye.
He walks closer towards me as I turn to face him.
"What. did. you. just. Say.?" his eyebrows furrow.
"I said I'm making coffee. I'm going to college soon. You don't have control over me anymore." I pour the coffee in a mug.
he grabs my wrist stopping me from taking a sip of my coffee.
He squeezes my wrist hard, it hurts so much I can't even do anything I'm weak against him.
I stay there in place not even moving a muscle, tears forming in my eyelids.
He says, "Next time go to sleep you cannot be up until this time" with that he lets go walking back upstairs.
Tears are burning in the back of my eyes. I run up to my room grabbing a hoodie and leaving the house.
I keep running until I reach the neighborhood park, I hide underneath the big green rusty slide that has been here for years.
I pull out my phone clicking on my voicemails scrolling down until I find the one I like.
"Hey sweetheart I made some pancakes today although I kind of burnt them. No worries tho I will be a master by the time you come home. I'm going to make you a perfect stack of soft fluffy pancakes drenched in your favorite butter syrup! Come home soon I love you, my perfect girl."
