After a few weeks, sitting with Danielle, Tiffany and Amy seemed to become a regular thing, and Abigail was upset at first, but gradually she got used to sitting with them and even started having normal conversations with them.
She still was jealous sometimes when Adeline laughed at a joke someone else made, or had a lengthy conversation with someone from her other classes. But she was trying to control it by convincing herself that Adeline was definitely straight, and there was nothing she could do about it.
After a few days, Tiffany and Amy had a practice for a school program and Abigail was left alone with Danielle.
"Hey"
"Hi"
Abigail took a bite of her sandwich.
"They literally gave us so much homework"
"I know, I'm dying"
She took a sip of water.
"Do you like Adeline?"
Abigail nearly spit out the water in her mouth.
"Huh?! Of course I like her, no I love her, she's my best friend!"
Danielle watched her carefully.
"No, I mean you like her?"
Abigail was astonished.
"What do you mean?"
"You know what I mean. I've seen the way you look at her."
'Omg this can't be happening', thought Abigail.
"Of course not."
"Are you sure?"
Abigail began feeling nervous.
"Why are you even asking me such weird questions?"
Danielle shrugged.
"I mean, it almost looks like you're in love with her"
"What?!"
"I can help you, you know? But if you don't want to tell me it's totally fine-"
Abigail was confused, but since Danielle already seemed to know, she decided to just admit it.
"Okay, fine"
"What?"
"Yes, I have a crush on Adeline."
"I knew it!"
Danielle laughed, and then saw the look on Abigail's face.
"Don't worry, I won't tell anyone"
"You better not"
