"I'm so excited for you! But did they really need to call you back so soon?" My best friend (bff/n) asks me, giving me sad puppy eyes."I'm sorry, (bff/n) but they need me. Here, you can reread the letter if you'd like."
"I geeeeeet it. They need you because you're special." They pout, crossing their arms.
"We'll hang out when I get back, and I'll make sure to write. I must get going now though, I can't afford to miss my ride. I'll talk to you soon." I say as I hug my friend.
I make my way towards a giant bus, hauling my duffle bag over my shoulder. As I step onto the bus, I'm promptly stopped.
"I'm guessing you're the rookie?" The young driver asks, looking me up and down. Ugh.
"No sir, I served my five years two years ago."
"Ah, that's great. Now what's the password?" He scowls.
Password?! What password?!
"Ahahah! I'm just messin' with you kiddo! You should've seen the look on your face!" He laughs, breaking his scowl. "Hop on, it's gunna be a long ride. Get comfortable."
I star making my way to the seat farthest back, away from the driver and take my seat, plugging in my headphones as I do so. I decide to play (f/s). I let out a sigh of relief and pull out my letter, rereading the bold letters lining the top.
HYBRID 141
My (h/c) tail flicks in excitement. "Maybe they want more inclusivity? There's only hybrids because we were kidnapped and experimented on. There's less than fifety of us." I think to myself. "Maybe even less; some of us died while rebelling against our Russian captors years ago..." I shudder the memories off and slouch in my seat, letting the music take me adrift into sleep.
————————-TIMESKIP————————-
I wake up to the bus jolting back and forth roughly, sending my head into the window.
"Ow, son of a bitch!" I groan, placing a hand on my head.
"Mornin' sleepyhead! Sorry bout' the jostling, but at least we're almost here!" The driver calls back to me, turning to smile at me.
I sit up and look over my seat, drinking in my surroundings. A small building comes into view, the moon being the only source of light. I ease myself back into a sitting position, nervously fidgeting. What if they don't like me? What if they think I'm weak? They have to have read my file and know-
"We've arrived! Good luck Miss Hybrid!"
I start getting up and putting my headphones back into my duffel bag.
"I'm not 'Miss Hybrid'." I say, my gaze in his direction, "My name is (y/n). (F/n) (l/n)." I say as I start making my way to the front.
"I apologize. Now stay safe out there! Give em' hell!"
I smile, getting off the bus. The driver takes off, leaving nothing but a cloud of dust. I stand in front of the small building, taking in my surroundings. It's good to know your position, you never know if the enemy is lying in wait. I slowly start to smell something pungent and turn to face where the smell is coming from. A small red light brightens and dims up against the building.
"You have very good senses, don't you?" A gentle yet gruff voice speaks, coming from where the smell and light is. "You must be who Shepphard sent out for, eh?"
I stare into the darkness blinking, my eyes starting to slowly adjust.
"Yes sir! Pardon me, but may I ask who I'm speaking to?" I ask, struggling to figure out who this stranger is.
The man drops his cigarette on the ground and steps on it before making his way into the moonlight.
"Captain Price. Welcome to the task force." He states, smiling. I quickly salute him, completely disheveled. Why would I ASK HIM THAT?! I should've known! Idiot!
"You don't need to do that, we don't do that 'round here." He puts out a callused hand. "Unless you're around the Lt, that's different. He's a lil' prickly but he warms up eventually."
I gently grab his hand and shake it, smiling.
"Thank you sir, I'm glad to be a part of the force and I'm honored to be here."
"Oh, you don't have to call me sir, just call me Price." He chuckles heartily, placing a gentle hand on my head. I forgot he's much taller than me.
"Come, let's have you meet the men of Task Force 141."
He starts making his way towards the front door, walking slow to make sure I can keep up. I take one last look up at the moon, drinking in the peaceful moonlight before I follow him inside.
