I woke slowly in a pitch black room. It was so dark that if I put my hand right in front of my face, I wouldn't see it. I was strapped tightly to a chair, cutting off the circulation in my arms. I stared blankly into the darkness and recalled as much as I could about how I got here.
There was a tall, muscular man. He looked out of place, but I couldn't put my finger on why. Perhaps it was his tourists hat, or maybe it was the fact that he scanned the swarming kids intensely as they came off campus. I just continued to walk, trying to ignore the nagging feeling I had that there was danger. When he vegan to follow me, I felt anxiety and did my best to keep calm. I heard my IPod fall out of my pocket but pretended I didn't hear it, and kept going. A moment later when he called out to me I sensed my mistake.
"Miss." He called. I dropped my bag and ran as fast as I could in my uniform required pencil skirt. "Hey!!" I heard him yell out to me. I turned left into an alley and there were three men at the end waiting for me. I began to turn to run away, but wasn't fast enough, as one of the men yanked me back. I fell to the floor and busted my lip. The man that had been following me walked calmly into the alley and belt down next to me.
"This could have gone much smoother young Bethany." the man said, pulling a cloth out of his pocket. He held it firmly to my face over my mouth and nose. It smelled funny and I struggled to breathe fresh air. after a few moments my vision bagan to blur, then they began to water, and then I was unconscious.
Frankly, I was surprised to wake up here. I figured they'd rape me then kill me, but from what I could tell, neither had happened.
The door opened and a streep of pale yellow light poured into the room. I squinted against the sudden onslaught of brightness. Someone walked in, and based on the sound of heels clicking on the tile floor, I assumed it was a woman. She untied me, taking me by surprise, and I couldnt help but feel some hope that she would let me go.
"Don't get too excited Sweetheart. We are just taking you to the operating room." She said. Two men came in and each one grabbed one of my arms.
"Operating room?" I asked, but she didnt answer instead one o f the two men knocked me out for the second time today.Turns out.. this would be my last day as Bethany Miller.
