*Liam’s point of view*
The city lights were so bright they were almost blinding my tired eyes and the cold cut through me the moment I stepped out of the café. Maybe I should have grabbed a cup to go. Never mind, the hotel wasn’t too far. A month ago I wouldn’t have been cold. I would have a beautiful dark, curly haired girl under my arm to keep me warm. I shook my head. No. it’s over between us. She made it clear.
I wondered if the phone number on the dollar bill was a little too forward. I didn’t want to scare Amy away. I just thought she was interesting, a nice person to talk to. I just wished she would actually look at me. She probably wasn’t even interested. She didn’t seem it very much. But I had to try, especially after she talked about Wolverhampton. Her mentioning she wanted to go again made me miss it even more. I missed my home. I could almost hear my mother’s voice telling me to come in for dinner when I had been outside playing basketball. I was starting to wonder why I was still doing this. My heart ached. I just wanted to have fun again.
Maybe tomorrow we would go to that giant toys are us I loved. Yes, that’s what we should do. Just go, get a few Nerf guns, and have a buzzing time. Maybe I’d let Louis get so wild he’d get thrown out. That would be fantastic.
Would you like to talk about it? I mean, I’m… you know. Here. She was refreshingly nice. And genuine. The best part was, she didn’t know who I was. But if she was as down to earth as it seemed, I would change that. I hope she called. No doubt she would be a fun person to get to know. No, stop. You’re getting ahead of yourself. I reminded myself not to get my hopes up. I knew it would only get me disappointment. But I guess that was a chance I had to take.
*Amy’s point of view*
On your knees, you look up. Decide you’ve had enough.
You get mad, you get strong. Wipe your hands, shake it off.
Then you stand.
My headphones were ripped out of my ears and my eyes flew open. Amarie stood over me holding my headphones with a very anxious face. Her red hair was out of its pony tail and flying everywhere but she still managed to look model material in her pink cupcake pajamas.
“So?” she asked. “Are you going to tell me what happened?” I sat up and rubbed my temples.
“What are you talking about?” I asked. She sighed. “Okay, I was being patient out of respect for you so you could get over the shock of things and collect your thoughts so you could explain things to me properly. But obviously you weren’t planning on telling me anything so spill!”
I realized she was talking about Liam. I still had the dollar folded up in my pocket. The thought of it caused my stomach to rise in my throat. I sighed. “He came in, we talked about his home town, he asked me what I was doing tomorrow-”
“Oh my god, he did! Are you going out with him? What did you say?” I threw my pillow at her to shut her up. She got the message and allowed me to continue. “I said I was working. But then he told me to let him know if I changed my mind and gave me his number.”
After a few seconds she said “Why would you tell him you’re working?! If it was me I’d be like “Oh, what am I doing tomorrow night? You, of course!” I groaned and grabbed a second pillow, ready to throw. She raised her hands in front of her face and said “What, I’m just saying.” I sighed. “Yeah, I know.” I said. “But I don’t want to seem too eager.”
“WHY are you thinking this through?” she asked. “You never did that before.”
“And look where that’s gotten me.” I said.
