I awoke, gasping for air as I heard a deafening knock at the front door.
Something about it seemed omenous—as if it were beckoning me to find it.
They knocked again. At first it was slowly, as if they had all the time in the world.
But now it became incessant. Demanding.
As if ordering me to get out of my warm cosy bed just to see to them at—midnight?
A chill rolled down my spine. I could feel the person watching me—even though I knew I was safe from their line of vision in my bedroom.
