" And here I thought you weren't as stupid as people said you were. Who knew you were just way worse. " With a loud huff Gwen said, while the rest of the family members just snickered or pretended not to hear anything Gwen said. Naturally they had nothing against Octavia as she only had beauty and no talents, but when she was crowned the first princess they started looking for means to bring her down. Unlike Gwen, they had no serious negative thought towards her. Gwen had always been the most beautiful amongst them until Octavia came along, comparing them was like comparing a phoenix and a peacock.
The sound of their father's wine glass making contact with the glass table brought Gwen out of her reverie.
"That's enough for the day Gwen, seems like you would be visiting your mother earlier than expected. "
"What?! I don't remember doing anything wrong. "
" You still haven't gotten enough manners yet, you should be able to reflect in your behavior." Wiping his mouth clean, he swept a look over his daughters. " And from today onwards, I will be watching all of you more closely, before the end of the month the council would be picking one of you for the crown princess position. " Giving Octavia one last glance he left the dinning room.
Octavia left soon after he did, she really didn't have much appetite as usual. As she passed through the hallway, every servant she encountered kept on glancing back at her. Maybe she didn't notice it, but there was a slight turn up on her pouty pink lips, which no one in the castle rarely ever saw.
She was relieved not happy though, her father has given up on trying to get a reaction out of her. Her years of acting have finally paid off, she didn't like the feeling of being on the spot light. She wanted to be just there and invisible. This way she would be able to enjoy the rest of this year peacefully.
But deep down somewhere in her dark mind, she knew this was just the calm before the storm.
........YEARS AGO
Below a large tall tree with pink flowers stood two children in similar uniform, enjoying the cool breeze the garden offered.
" it's been seven months since he left, he would be coming back soon right? ". The little girl with raven black hair said, after carefully tying her wish peach like many other students had. The tree where they stood under was named the wish garden tree. It was where pupils there age made there desires known, even it never got fulfilled.
" students here would do anything to escape from this hell." The boy who was being referred to, said flatly.
His back leaning lazily against the tree like he could not stand on his own."But he promised he would be back" . She replied pouting her rosy lips.
"You brain is still empty."
"And you're still so mean". Her cheeks puffed out like she was going to explode anytime soon.
The silver haired boy stared at her in silence, maybe he thought it irrelevant to reply her or he was just too entranced in her beauty to respond. She was the most beautiful girl he had laid his eyes on and maybe would have been the most beautiful if she didn't say her mother had the face that could rever a goddess.
" Won't you ask what I wished for Liam?". She asked doodling with her feet, as she looked down.
"What is it?"
"I wished that in the future you would be nicer to me and you would love me, even if it's not as much as I like you" Her cheeks were red by the time she finished her sentence and if she wasn't looking down at her feet, he would have seen the desperation hidden in her bright blue eyes.
" Didn't anybody tell you, the wishes on that tree usually don't get fulfilled?"
"I heard, that's why am telling you instead."
" Am not the fairies in your fairy tales that fulfill people's wishes."
"Am not asking for much, I just want you to love even if it's this tiny ." She said Using her thumb and index to emphasize her point.
"Life is not a fairy tale Blue, always remember that." Liam said, patting her hair gently before leaving her standing there, alone under the tree. Not even looking back once to see the miserable figure he left behind, besides by the next day she must have forgotten it, he thought. What he didn't know was that if his answer was different, that might not have separated in the most cruel way possible.
The last drop of tears she shed, were shed there and it was the last time she expected anything from anyone. She was right, no one would ever love a monster like her.
