chapter twelve
the whole board

dylan ryan stumbled on the sidewalk, her head pounding, while she made her way home. she covered her ears at the sound of breaks of a car, "dylan, get in," she heard a familiar voice say.

she looked over, rolling her eyes at the sight of stiles, "go away stiles, i can do this," the girl stopped, feeling lightheaded again.

"dylan," stiles threw open the door of his car, not without tripping of course and ran over to her, catching her just before she fell, "i'm bringing you to my place, okay?" dylan only nodded, allowing the boy to lead her to his jeep.

"philosophers?" stiles questioned allison who was on the phone.

"and guardians....which, after last night, has to mean something, like, law enforcement, right?" the hunter continued, realizing something, "stiles, you have to tell your dad. tell him whatever you need, but you have to get him to believe. tell your dad, warn him."

"okay, okay, okay, i know," stiles looked annoyed at this.

"what are you gonna do?" dylan asked from the passengers seat, looking at him.

stiles sighed, "i'm gonna tell him the truth...." he looked to her, "and i'm gonna need your help."

arriving at stiles' house, dylan laid on the boys bed, watching him as he paced back and forth, freaking out while his dad watched him with crossed arms.

"stiles?" the sheriff spoke, impatiently.

"dad, i'm sorry, okay? i'm just.....i'm trying to....i'm just trying to figure out how to start....here," he said to his dad, trying to gather his thoughts.

"is dylan pregnant with your baby?" sheriff stilinski pointed at the girl on the bed, her eyes going wide, stiles' eyes going wide too.

"what?!" he cried out, "no! god! no! we're not even dating!" stiles made an inhuman sound, throwing his arms about.

"hey, i don't have this kind of time," he told him, raising a brow.

"um..." stiles began, "for the last year, you've had all these cases that you couldn't figure out, right? i mean, all the murders involving kate argent, and then matt killing all the people that drowned him, and all these murders right now! it's like-it's like you've been playing a losing game."

the sheriff sighed, "stiles, the last thing i need right now is a job performance review from my own son-"

"i know, okay?" stiles said anxiously, "see, but that's....that's just it, dad," dylan watched as he walked over and grabbed a chess board game, "the-the reason that you're losing the game is cause you've never been able to see the whole board," he placed the game down on the table, "i need to show you the whole board."
