It was 2 am and George couldn't sleep. He turned and tossed with no luck. His wife was already fast asleep beside him, George then slowly got out of bed trying not to wake his wife. He stepped outside of his bedroom and walked to the kitchen and got a glass of water. As he drank his water he walked over to the window and took a peek outside. It was dark but he thought that it would be a great idea to go on a late night walk.

So George put his coat over his pyjamas and put on his boots and quietly opened the front door and stepped outside and closed the door behind him. He then slowly walked down the front steps and on to the sidewalk and he headed to the direction of the park. As he walked down the empty streets to the park he couldn't help but think of his missing daughter. George's daughter had gone missing years ago and never been found and he hoped one day she would return. The park reminded him of her; he and his wife would always bring her here when she was little to play and he missed her very much.

When he finally arrived at the park he walked around the park and thought of all the memories he had made here. As he walked further and further into the park George heard some faint crying from the far end of the park. He was scared and concerned he wanted to make sure that that person was alright. George looked around but it was too dark to see anything. George kept walking until the crying got closer and closer and finally it sounded like it was near him somewhere.

He looked a head and saw a light post and a girl sitting under a tree. The light post illuminated her and he could tell that the girl had long brown hair. Also she was wearing a long purple dress with a sash around it that said prom queen. The girl looked young. He couldn't see her face because she was covering it with her hands and she was crying.

She was covered in blood and he looked injured so George approached her and asked her "Are you ok why are you crying"?. The girl looked at him, removing her hands slightly, revealing her brown eyes. She said " The mean girl hurt me". ''Who?"He asked but she didn't answer and continued crying. Please don't cry, I will get help. But again she didn't answer.

So George pulled out his cellphone from his pocket and called the police. He then hung up the phone and for a moment he couldn't help but think to himself that that girl looked so much like his daughter. But he shook it off as a coincidence and looked back at the tree. But this time when he looked at the tre he saw the girl was fading away into thin air and then she was gone. George was too stunned to say anything and he just stood there shocked.

Suddenly George began to look around but he couldn't see the girl anywhere she was gone. So he just stood there waiting for the police to arrive and after a couple minutes he could hear sirens in the distance. " Over here" said George he could hear footsteps and he saw shining flashlights. It was the police. " Hello sir, my name is officer Simon  , so where is that girl you were talking about?" Said one of the officers. " She's gone, she faded away right in front of my eyes"said George.

"Faded away?" questioned one of the officer Simon confused. " yeah into thin air" replied George. "Well sir, are you sure you saw a girl? Maybe this was all in your head because how can someone just vanish like that?" said the other police officer. "But officer I'm sure I saw a girl that wasn't all in my head" exclaimed George. "Ok sir if you say we're just gonna do a quick search so you said she was sitting under a tree?" Said officer Simon. "Yeah" said George. " Alright we'll take a look around then" said officer Simon.

So The police officers began to look around but they found nothing, no footprints or fingerprints. George was devastated because he really wanted to help that poor girl but now she was gone. George watched as the officer kept looking around the tree trying to find any evidence to locate that girl. Officer Simon walked up to George and said " well sir we have found nothing so far but we are gonna bring out the police dog to see if he can find that girls scent anywhere". George looked at officer Simon and replied" ok officer hopefully that girls ok".

George just stood there as the police made their way to the tree where the girl sat under. The police dog sniffed the tree but didn't move instead it just kept circling the tree. George walked up to the police officers and asked " so what are you guys gonna do now? did you find anything?". The other officer beside officer Simon looked at him and said" well sir it looks like her scent is coming from the tree meaning she didn't go anywhere but the tree which means she still should be here but she's not so I guess we have to dig a hole under the tree as we have no other leads". "Ok officer" said George.

The police officers began to dig a hole under the tree he watched as the hole got deeper and deeper but he could not see anything. Suddenly he heard his phone ringing. It was his wife. He looked at the time and realised it was 5 am in the morning. He had lost track of time and he immediately answered her call.

He heard his wife's voice on the other end of the phone and she sounded concerned he told her the whole story. His wife insisted on coming down to the park but he told her to stay home and told her that he was going to come home soon. George's wife was hesitant but agreed and then he hung up the phone. George looked at the hole and saw the officers just standing there still so he asked them what was going on. "What's going on? Did you find something?".

Officer Simon looked at him and said " yes sir we did find a human skeleton. George's expression changed, unable to say anything as he looked down the hole. There he was a human skeleton laying in it wearing that exact same dress and sash the girl was wearing. " That's her That's the girl, " exclaimed George. George looked at the girl one more time and said " that dress is the exact one my daughter wore before she went missing". Officer Simon looked at George shocked and said " sir we are gonna take the body and do a dna test to see if it is your daughter".

Ok officers I will be waiting for the results" said George". "Ok sir we will give you a call" said officer Simon. With that being said the police officers took the body away George started making his way back home. He saw the police car slowly disappear. As he walked he could believe what just had happened and he could believe that all this was real.

George finally arrived home and there he saw his wife sitting waiting inside . She looked very concerned. George went up to her and told her everything. His wife was in shock too then she looked at him and said " well honey I think you should get some rest". " Good idea," said George.

After that George walked to his bedroom and got into his bed and closed eyes and he dozed off to sleep. A couple days later George got a phone call from the police and it turns out that the girl he saw was his missing daughter. He thanked the police officers and hung up the phone. A tear fell from his eye he told his wife the news she also began to tear up. George was devastated about his daughter and wondered what had happened he could do something like this.

Then George remembered something so he immediately picked up his phone and called the police back. The police answered the phone and George said on the other end " my daughter when I saw her crying under that tree I believed that I saw her ghost I asked her what happened and she said the mean girl did it I don't know if that's if any help". Ok sir we will look more into that" said the officer on the phone. "Ok officer call me if you find information," said George. " ok sir we will do that thanks for the information" said the officer on the phone.

" No problem," said George. George hung up the phone and thought to himself who was the "mean" girl?.
