Chapter 70
Nobody’s POV
Louri walks out onto the back porch with Karsten and they grab some firewood from the pile by one of the fences. They walk over to the fire pit and Louri begins to set up the wood to make the perfect fire. Once she has it set the way she wants she grabs a blow torch that the rental had on the side of the porch and she starts torching the wood. Loving the way the wood crackles in the fire. Once content with the fire she puts the torch away safely so the others couldn’t get to it. She walks inside to gather the others. Karsten has set up the chairs around the fire at a safe distance. “Wow Mama that’s a big fire,” Devon says. “It is, make sure you don’t go too close to it,” Louri says. Everybody takes a seat in one of the chairs and Louri quickly goes inside and grabs some blankets for everyone. She brings them out and distributes them to everybody. She sits next to Scarlett, bringing her chair close to her and placing a big blanket over the both of them and Thomas. It wasn’t too cold out but there was a breeze. They enjoyed the warmth of the fire and the quietness surrounding them. The crackling of the wood brings peace and tranquility. Karsten decides to sing Chim Chim Cheree from Mary Poppins, making the girls and Devon smile. After some time the fire starts to dwindle down and the kids become sleepy. Lisa and Melanie take the girls inside, while Karsten carries Devon in. Louri helps Scarlett up with a sleeping Thomas in her arms. She then goes back outside to put the fire out. Once the fire is out she heads inside and locks the back door. She makes sure everything is locked up and heads upstairs. Maya and Louisa are in bed so Louri quietly closes their door a little, leaving it slightly ajar. She walks into Devon’s room and tucks him in, giving him a kiss on the head. “Goodnight Little Marine,” she says. “Goodnight Mama,” he says and turns to his side to sleep. She heads out of his room and into the room where Scarlett is feeding Thomas. “He woke up?” Louri asks. “Yeah he was getting a little fussy so I decided to feed him, will you change and burp him?” Scarlett asks. “Of course,” Louri says, walking over to their suitcases and grabbing a new onesie and a diaper for Thomas. She walks back over to Scarlett and sits on the bed next to her and waits till she is done feeding him. Once fed, Louri takes him and gently puts him on her shoulder and rubs his back and pats it every so often till he burps a couple times. “Good job buddy,” Louri says, gently laying him down on the bed. She grabs the changing pad and places it underneath him and gets him changed. “Ooo stinky stinky” Louri says in a silly voice, making Thomas giggle. She takes his dirty diaper and tosses it in the trash and puts on a fresh diaper. She puts him in the new onesie and lays him in the bassinet and brings it close to the bed. “Clean baby all set,” she says, making Scarlett chuckle. They change into their PJ’s and get under the covers, just like Scarlett says, she holds Louri in her arms. Louri takes a deep breath, inhaling her wife’s beautiful scent that she can never get tired of. “Goodnight Koala,” Louri says. “Goodnight my Marine” Scarlett says. They kiss and close their eyes, letting sleep take over.
During the night Thomas started to cry. Louri and Scarlett both wake up but Louri tells Scarlett she’s got him. She gets up from the bed and walks over to his bassinet and gently picks him up. She bounces gently with him in her arms, lightly shushing in his ear. He still seems a bit fussy so Louri decides to sit in the rocking chair in the room, rocking him back and forth. She decides to softly sing Can’t help but falling in Love to him, making Scarlett look over and smile. Eventually Thomas falls back asleep and Louri gets up and places him back into the bassinet. She then gets back into bed and snuggles back into Scarlett. “I heard what you sang to him,” she says. “It’s a great song” Louri whispers and kisses Scarlett on the lips. They intertwine their arms and legs together and let sleep overcome them again.
