Chapter 18: Demons

Demon, the common enemy of the rest of the world. They are a race that was born from a large amount of mana that had negative emotions collected inside of it.

This can happen due to magic-based tortures, regrets from powerful mages, or simply collective negativity that the population has due to some other reasons.

Born a mindless spirit at first, the first demon managed to possess a body and gain a physical form for itself. Through an unknown way, they managed to make their race be born with a physical body and expand rapidly through sheer brutality and near-unlimited numbers their race has.

They are instinctive creatures, only acting on basic principles like a bunch of mindless monsters. Because of that, they are naturally feared as their appearances are simply a spawn of nightmares for most common people.

Their main principle is as follows, follow the strong, cause destructions, and expand. It's these 3 principles that the demons follow with near obsession, and an attempt to stop them from doing it will be faced with retaliations.

They will march into a place with a large amount of population, turn the place into rubble, and kill everyone that happened to be there. Once they're done, they simply feast and continue their march.

Through this march, they managed to take a sizable chunk of land for themselves, creating the now-called demon territory up in the north.

Of course, there are many attempts to try and coexist with them, either diplomatically or forcefully. But all of them failed due to a single, simple reason-

Incompatibility.

When compared to the rest of the world, the demon's actions are simply the same things that the rest do daily, just different in executions.

For the demons, Vitality and Emotions are their ingredients, and causing destruction and loss of lives is their way of cooking it. They then eat the cooked meals they made and continue to hunt for more ingredients.

For them, this is their way of survival, their way of life, and they don't see the problem with it. To prevent them from doing that to prevent other species from eating food and drinking water. Heck, it might even be the same as preventing them from breathing air in rare cases.

This will still be the case even when they grow stronger and smarter. It's just that the way they go about it becomes more sophisticated and unique than what the weaker demons could think of.

Some demons become a warlord, destroying cities and kingdoms and turning the people inside into their food. Some become more cunning, acting in the shadow and sowing discord within the city they are in before taking a consistent meal for themselves.

Of course, with that many groups of demons acting independently, there would be much discord within the demonkind themselves. But that is where the last remaining principal comes in.

The demons are a race that respects the strong. When given an order by a demon with a much higher strength or authority than them, they would simply follow the order without question. Because of this, they are usually seen as a militant city, with the stronger demons being in the higher rank than the weaker ones.

While this may be biased toward the demon, if one is strong enough to overwhelm the demon that leads them through pure strength, they would have the ability to use this principle against them.

There are cases where a powerful non-demon being can tell the demons to simply return to their territory. As these beings are much more powerful than those who ordered them in the first place, the demons complied without a hitch.
