Archaeological Site

Egypt,

Along the Red Sea

1947

Indy burst through the rubble, crashing into the small chamber, grabbing his daughter, lifting her out of the quicksand as she screamed in terror.

He rolled onto his back, sweeping her into his strong arms, lifting her above the reach of the water. "It's all right, Littlest Artifact. I'm here. I've got you." He pressed her against his chest, barely fitting inside the chamber which had saved Emily's life. "Breathe with me, Em."

She gave a shrieking, raspy cry.

"Breathe, honey," Indy whispered fighting a terror and desperation which he'd never felt before as he held Emily close. "You need to calm down before I can get you out of here."

"Indy!" Marion called, her voice distant.

"I've got her!" Indy answered back. "She's -" he paused, knowing all too well the feeling of blood soaking through clothing.

"Momma!?!??" Emily choked, reaching forward in the uncertain darkness.

"We'll get there," Indy soothed, taking her hands, and folding them under his jacket.

She clutched his shirt collar like she had as a baby.

"Stay with me, Em."

Then he zipped up his jacket, using it to try and hold Emily so he could have his hands free. "Em, keep breathing with me, all right?"

He'd crawled through on his stomach, but now, carrying her against his chest meant that he had to move under the broken obelisk on his back. He cradled Emily against his chest and shoulder, tucking her under his chin. Then he placed a protective hand against her face and head. Carefully he kissed Em on the head, tasting blood from her injuries, confirming his fear. He tried to keep his voice calm. "We're gonna go see Momma now."
