Cade Windsor"I might die."
"Same." I concluded. "What fun is being home without the boys?"
"A bore fest. Cameron isn't even here."
"I'm here." Asher said from the kitchen. "But, you know, continue hanging upside down on the couch. The blood has already rushed to your head any way."
I tumbled off the couch, and landed, no-so-gracefully, on the floor. "Cameron has been gone the entire two days we've been back. He moved in. He checks in. A lot. But we haven't really seen him. What the hell could he be doing?"
"I don't know. But maybe you two can go help Alastair and Ace's teams get through the slug of the holiday break. They went back yesterday, and production was very low."
I frowned. "I don't know if Ace would be okay with that. I only know a little bit about software development. He's still working on that new update for the app." I climbed to my feet and stretched out my arms. "I don't want to mess with it."
Asher took out his phone, looking through it. "Well, Alastair said it was fine for Carter. Ace sent me back a middle finger, but I'll assume that means yes coming from him." He locked his phone and put it into his pocket. "And you don't need to do their work, but help lead their teams into doing their work. You both were trained for this your entire lives."
"Might not be a bad idea, and it will make the days go by faster." I glanced at Carter. "What do you think?"
"I think that I hate when Alastair isn't here." Carter started stomping toward his room. "I'll be ready in ten!"
"So, give him like a good hour, and he will be good." I amended. "I'll help, too. Maybe it will help guide me toward a path for a career. Plus, I miss Ace, so I need something to do that will help me forget that for a little while."
Asher smirked as he leaned against the couch. "I want so bad to say that I didn't see that one coming, but I don't think I can. Not many people receive what you did. You won the lottery over there."
"He loves me." I smiled to myself. "He told me he'd marry me tomorrow if I wanted. Not that it's necessary, but hearing it was enough. I can't believe I finally get to understand happiness of this caliber. I never thought I would."
"You deserve it, Cade. You and Carter both do."
I arched a brow. "And what about Cameron?"
He tried to hide his clear distaste, but I saw it. Though, I knew his words were genuine. "Cameron deserves to be happy, too. And I certainly hope he figures out what that looks like for him."
"I do, too. I hope you do as well. Whatever that looks like for you. I've never seen you date anyone. Why? You were very nice to me when I approached you four years ago—helping me through a crisis. I'd like to think you'd make someone very happy."
Asher shrugged. "I thought I didn't too bad at the relationship thing, either. But it turns out that maybe I did. Or maybe I simply wasn't good enough. And maybe I'll never know because relationships aren't for me. Love isn't for me. It only takes one person to change all of that, but just because that is my story, it doesn't mean it is everyone else's."
"I like that you don't let your past relationship affect how you talk to or help someone else. But I am sorry you were hurt. I hope you find your person. I hope you don't give up on love forever because you deserve to be happy, Asher."
He chuckled. "I'm starting to think I was an awful person in my past life."
"If that were the case, I believe at some point, you deserve to be redeemed."
