CASSIE'S POV
"Chris...please..." I sigh, rolling my eyes, "we're in the middle of a zombie apocalypse and you want to go find a corndog?" I adjust the small backpack on my shoulder and raise an eyebrow at my boyfriend. He looks at me, his blue eyes staring into my brown ones. "yea! Why not?" He asks, ignoring my comments about how ridiculous his wish is. "we're not going to find one, you know." I remark before looking around the green forest. "it's getting dark, can we find some place to settle?" I ask, running a hand through my long red hair. "sure, I guess." Chris replies, "let's keep walking and see if we find somewhere to rest, okay?" He says and I nod. "alright." After about 5 minutes of walking we come across a small clearing, where we decide to rest for the night. We set up the tent and lay the small blanket big enough for two down on the ground. I lay down on the blanket and reach into my backpack, pulling out It by Stephen King. I must've read this book at least 13 times since this whole damn mess started. The virus spread like wildfire, you get one bite or scratch and you're dead for. You turn into one of them. A monster. I never thought that this was possible...they made movies about it, but I thought that's what they would always be. Movies. Oh god, I was so wrong. I lost everybody...my mother, father, 8 year old brother, even my cat...Tears spill out of my eyes just thinking about it. Only two weeks after my 17th birthday the apocalypse started. Chris and I have been dating for about nine months now. He's the only thing I have left. I couldn't imagine life without him. I'm brought out of my thoughts as Chris lays down next to me. "babe...are you okay?" He asks as he wipes the hot tears from my cheeks. I look at him and run my fingers through his thick black hair before nodding. "yea...I'm fine," I respond, "who's keeping watch first?" I ask. Chris shrugs, "I will. I guess." I bite my lip, "okay." He reaches into the backpack and grabs the gun, checking to make sure it's loaded before walking out of the small tent.CHRIS'S POV
I walk out of the small tent and sit down on a rock. I hear Cassie begin to sing, whispering the soothing words of "You Are My Sunshine". I begin to sing along.
"you are my sunshine" Cassie sings.
"my only sunshine" I reply.
"you make me happyy"
"when skies are grey."
"you'll never know, dear."
"how much I love you."
"please don't take, my sunshine away." We sing together.
"that's our song, baby." I tell her. "of course it is." She responds, giggling. "please don't ever leave me." I whisper. "never, I promise." She tells me.
I sigh in content. I love that girl. I hear a rustle in the bushes and jump, pointing the gun to where I heard the noise. A squirrel runs out at me and scurries up an old oak tree. I laugh at how silly I am, I should've known. I turn around and come face to face with a zombie. I let out a loud scream before it sinks its teeth into my shoulder. I shoot it, the bullet escaping out of the back of its head before I drop to the ground.CASSIE'S POV
"CHRIS!" I scream, rushing out of the tent. I run out to see him lying on the ground, a small puddle of blood already forming around him, the dead zombie lay near his legs. I run over to him. "Oh my god, Chris what happened??" I rest his head in my lap as the tears run down my cheeks like raindrops. "I-I was b-bit." He stutters out. A loud sob escapes my lips as I continue to cry, and I brush his hair out of his face. "Cassie, I...I love you..." he murmurs. "I love you too..." I respond. His breathing is labored as I continue to run my fingers through his hair, "shh...it's okay..." I reassure him. "you are my sunshine" he begins to sing.
"my only sunshine. You make me happy, when skies are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take, my sunshine away." I sing the last line by myself and I look down at Chris. His breathing stopped and his eyes remain open, but lifeless. I begin to violently sob before I close his eyes with my hand. I place a gentle kiss on his forehead before I remove the gun from his hand.
"I promised I'd never leave you..." I whisper. I point the gun at my temple, "I love you, Chris." I say as I pull the trigger.
And everything is black.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
