After that disaster of a dinner, the three went back home to rest for the night. Merry was having trouble sleeping, thinking about what she saw back at the dinner. Was it really her imagination or was that an actual elf with the appearance of a child? She wasn't even sure which one to believe until she heard the door open slightly. She sits up to see it was Charlie in his pajamas, "Can't sleep?" she asked
Charlie shook his head and walked up to his sister without a word, climbing onto the bed and holding her tight. "Can I stay with you, sissy?" he asked, "I heard something in my room"
"It was probably the wind or the AC" said Merry, "But yeah, you can stay with me if you want"
Just before the two could lay down on the bed, Charlie pouts and looks up at his sister asking, "Do you still believe in Santa?"
"Of course I do" said Merry, "Where did you get an idea like that? Was it Neil?"
"No, I just think Dad doesn't believe in Santa, even if he says he does"
"I don't know what to tell ya, sport. But maybe we can prove Dad that Santa does exist"
"How? He knows when you sleeping and he knows when you're awake"
"True, but that doesn't mean we can't steal a glimpse"Suddenly, a loud clatter was heard from outside, which made the two siblings jump. "What was that?" asked Merry
"It's a clatter!" said Charlie, "I think he's here!"
"Come on, let's go get Dad"
Without a moment to waste, Merry and Charlie make a run for their dad's room who was fast asleep in a gray t-shirt and boxers. Charlie shook his Dad's shoulder while Merry shook his leg, telling their dad to wake up. Scott wakes up and looks up at his kids with sleep in his eyes, "what?" he asked
"We heard a clatter" said Charlie
"Somebody's on the roof" said Merry
"Kids, what are you talking about?" asked Scott, "It's just the wind or something"
"It's definitely not the wind, Dad" said Merry, "Wind doesn't make a clatter"
Before Scott could bring Charlie back to bed, the clatter was heard once again, startling him with shock and concern. "Somebody's on the roof" he said
"We told you" said Merry
"Maybe it's Santa" said Charlie
Scott gets out of bed before grabbing his windbreaker jacket, telling the kids to stay while he checks what's going on outside. Merry on the other hand didn't wait, "Stay here, Charlie" she said, "I'm gonna help Dad"Scott heads outside, seeing a man in a big red suit walking on the roof of the house. He glares up and shouts, "Hey, you!"
Suddenly, the man in the red suit slips, sliding down the roof and falls into the snow with a bang. Merry came outside in her robe and boots, rushing to her Dad until the sight of a body came to view, "Oh my God!" she said, "What did you do?!"
"Nothing!" said Scott, "Some Mall Santa just slipped and fell off the roof"
"Mhm, and I killed the Easter Bunny with shovel"
While Scott checks if "Santa" was alive, Merry hears a strange noise, glancing over at the snowman she and Charlie made earlier until the little boy comes out the door to witness the aftermath. "You got him!" said Charlie, running down the front steps, ignoring his father's protests, "It is Santa. You killed him"
"Did not" said Scott in denial
"Yes, you did" said Merry
"Look, just- he's not Santa"
"Well, he was," said Charlie as Scott checks for an ID in Santa's coat. There was no ID, but a business card in green font that read, 'Santa Claus' and 'North Pole' underneath. On the back it said, 'If something should happen to me, put on my suit. The reindeer will know what to do'"Yeah right" said Scott, in disbelief. The sound of bells chimed from the rooftop, revealing a beautiful sleigh and reindeer waiting for Santa's return. The sight shocked Scott while Merry and Charlie looked up in awe. When the siblings looked down at Santa, they were shocked to see his body was gone. The only thing that remains are his red suit and black boots.
"He's gone" said Merry
"Where'd he go?" asked Charlie
"He's naked somewhere," said Scott, looking around the area for any footprints.
"You're gonna put on the suit, right Dad?" asked Merry
"No, I'm gonna put the suit on"
"Come on, Dad" Charlie begged, "I wanna go, too"
"Stop it, Charlie. We're not going anywhere"
"You never do what I wanna do!"
"Would you two be quiet for a minute so I can figure this out?
As Scott paces around the front of the house, Merry's glare softened when she knelt down to Charlie's height. "Don't take it too seriously, Charlie" she said softly, "Dad's just being a Scrooge right now"
"I know" said Charlie, "But I really wanna go up there"
"So do I, kiddo"Charlie and Merry then noticed a ladder appearing out of nowhere leading to the roof. Scott bumps into it, rubbing his forehead in the process. "Where the hell'd this come from?!" he yelled in confusion as Charlie started climbing on the ladder. He paused to see a message on the latter that says, 'The Rose Suchak Ladder Company'
"Out by the roof there's a Rose Suchak Ladder" said Charlie, "Just like the poem"
Merry couldn't help but giggle, seeing how Charlie didn't say the poem correctly, but still adorable. She followed her brother, ignoring her Dad's demands of coming down from the ladder. "Dad! you gotta see this!" said Charlie, carefully making his way to the sleigh, meanwhile Scott was examining Santa's clothes in astonishment. Merry was in awe the moment she saw the reindeer, cautiously making her way towards one of the leading reindeer known as Comet. "Well, aren't you a handsome reindeer?" she comments, petting Comet's head gently. The reindeer greets the teenager and child with kisses and nuzzles, which makes Charlie giggle in joy. Merry smiled and scratched Comet's chin until Scott made his way up the ladder yelling, "Kids! Stay away from those things! They're reindeer. You guys don't know where they've been. They look like they've got key lime disease"
"Just ignore him" said Merry, "Guess you can say my Dad becomes a real Scrooge this time of year"
"I do not!" said Scott.
A fart was heard from Comet, causing Scott to glare at the reindeer in disgust, "Easy, Rudolph"
Comet and Merry glared at him before Scott corrected himself, "Excuse me... Comet"Charlie was now sitting in the sleigh, messing around with the reins, as Scott and Merry made their way to the sleigh. "There's no such thing as Santa's sleigh," said Scott, trying to reason with his son. Merry wasn't thrilled about it and joined her brother, "Of course, it's real" she said, "What do you think this is, Dad? A Billboard?"
"Yeah, you said you believe in Santa, right?" asked Charlie.
Scott paused, forgetting that he did say that to Charlie before putting him to bed. He glanced at his kids, one glaring at him to cooperate, the other looking up with innocent eyes. "I did?" asked Scott, "I do!"
Merry mentally rolled her eyes as Scott tried to convince his kids that this was all an elaborate trick until he shouts, "Let's go!"
Suddenly, the reindeer start flying into the night sky with Scott, Charlie, and Merry still in the sleigh. Scot was screaming out of fear while his kids cheered and laughed in delight.
"This is amazing!" Merry shouts, "It's like a dream come true!"
"Giddyup, Comet!" called Charlie, having the time of his life while Scott climbed to the front of the sleigh, taking a seat between his two kids. The sleigh comes to a stop on top of a house, which confuses Scott until Charlie tells him to go down the chimney like Santa. "You want me to take the toys down in the chimney in a stranger's house in my underwear?!"" hissed Scott, clearly showing he didn't want any part of this whole fiasco.
"Obviously not dressed like that" said Merry, tossing the red coat and trousers to her dad, "Put these on"
"You know what we're gonna do, is we're gonna get out of here because this whole thing is stupid"
Charlie pouts and sits back in the sleigh in disappointment, "How come everything I wanna do is stupid?" he asked.
This really pulled a string in Scott's heart, seeing his kids disappointed in him, especially when it's Christmastime. With that, he finally gave in and put on the suit with ease since it was twice his size. "How do I look?" asked Scott, "Nice?"
"Don't forget this, Dad" said Merry, handing her father the Santa hat to complete the look
"I'm not wearing that, could have lice or something"
"Suit yourself"
Without hesitation, Merry placed Santa's hat on her head with a smile on her face. "Looks better on you anyway" said Charlie, earning a smile from his sister along with a ruffle to the head. The moment Scott grabs onto the sack full of toys, he starts flying in the air like Mary Poppins. "Careful, Dad" said Charlie, watching the scene unfold as his dad floats towards the chimney. Scott reassured his kids that he's alright, getting used to the altitude he's in.
"Dad, You're flying!" said Merry
"It's okay, I'm used to it!" said Scott, "I lived through the 60's!"
As if by magic, Scott squeezed his way through the chimney with ease, leaving his two kids on the sleigh until he came back with an empty sack. The rest of the night went on like so, Scott flys into the air and delivered presents through stranger's homes, chimneys or not, gifts were there on time, and the kids were having the time of their life. Scott glanced over his shoulder to see Charlie playing with a puppy in the back of the sleigh, a smile shown on his face. Merry noticed and scoot over to her dad, "This is possibly the best Christmas we'd ever had with you, Dad" she said, "Even if this is all a dream, it was worth it"
Scott smiled and pulled his eldest into a side hug, rubbing her arm as she fell asleep in his arms. Charlie joined as well, sleeping on his sister's lap, as the sleigh flies through towards the sunrise on Christmas Day, heading home for the day.A/N - MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!! There will be another chapter hopefully by tomorrow so I hope you enjoy this and once again, Merry Christmas!
