The day I'm laid to rest
Facing the sky,
I will remember
Where it all started. The warmth,
The wings that engulfed me in shadows
And how they kept me safe
Holding me in your warm brood pouch
On the bland nights, clearing my shallow doubts
There are miles, you walked far away,
Counting coins around the poverty line
From the hunger of your throat
I was fed for many days
And for my freedom, you lived in a cageWhen the clouds dawned upon the sky
I was thrown like a freshly hatched bird
Into the cruel forest wild, I departed
With your lessons in my mind, all the way back,
Stepping on the footprints you left behind.
I'm away from you, but still in your embrace
You are my temple, where I find my solace
Your lap is where my home took shape
Love and faith, you gave and gave
I'm lucky enough to smile today,
For, I still had you and, my growth,
I measured by the light in your eyes
From your breath, I took this entire life
From your sound, I know the world
When robbed of land, I stumbled and fell down,
You turned to be the ground I could stand upon
The day I'm laid to rest forever, facing the sky,
It has arrived. And even today,
I am all you, You am I.
What of mine..? It's your flesh that will burn,
Even as I die.
