Tom’s POV

I sit in my cell, nervously waiting for my lawyer, Peter, to come and talk to me about my trial. I can’t believe this is happening to me. I just want everything to go away. If I could turn back time, I would have never even been friends with Jude. She was more trouble than she was worth. I thought I was being a good person by sticking by her side, but instead she tried to throw herself at me and I lost the woman of my dreams. This place is horrible as well, it’s not even like they’re keeping me in a nice place until I get to prove my innocence, they’re already treating me like I’ve done the crime. It just isn’t fair. I’m not even allowed to see anyone, until I’ve been to court, which means, I have to stay in the his horrible cell and the only time I’m allowed out, is when I get to see my lawyer and he isn’t much help anyway.

At that moment I hear the locks clanking on my cell door and after a few seconds, it bursts open. “Thomas, your lawyer is here to see you” the guard says, as he beckons me to come out of my cell. I stand up and make my way towards him. He leads me into one of the offices. I walk inside and my lawyer is sitting at the desk, with a bunch of papers on his desk. The guard closes the door, before standing in front of it. I always have to have one in here with me, to make sure I don’t attack the lawyer. Not that I would do that anyway, I suppose they just have trust issues.

“Hello Thomas. Take a seat” he says.

“Hey” I say, with a weak smile. It’s scary to think, he’s my only hope of getting out of here and I just hope he’s a good lawyer. I mean, you see all these people on TV, who have got to prison for crimes they didn’t commit, and I don’t want to end up like them.

“So how are you feeling?” he asks me.

“Well considering I’m on trial for murder, not very good” I say.

“Well it will be over soon. Your trial is the day after tomorrow and hopefully you’ll be able to go home” Peter says, with an unsure look on his face.

“But what if I don’t? I might never see my family again and I haven’t even done anything wrong” I sigh.

“I know, but you just have to wait it out and if the worst case scenario happens and you get sent down, you will be able to have visitors, I’m sure” he says.

“Yeah, that’s not really filling me with confidence, Peter” I sigh again.

“Sorry. Look apparently the receptionist gave one of your friends a copy of the hearing details, so the chances are, they’ll be there to support you” he tells me.

“Wait. Are they allowed to do that? What if the press get hold of this? It will destroy the band” I panic.

“They don’t care, I’m afraid. As far as they’re concerned, you’re just another criminal. It’s ok though, they said they’ve only given it to one person and that was someone called Nathan apparently. Do you know a Nathan?” he asks.

“Yeah, he’s a member of the band. Do you think you would be able to tell my girlfriend the details of the trail? I’ve already used my only call” I say, in desperation. If he tells her when the court hearing in and she shows up, then that says something surly and then we might be able to get back together. I’ve missed Maria so much. I think this is the longest we’ve been apart since we got together.

“Of course, just write her name, relation and number here, then I can do it after I leave here and if there’s anyone else, then note them down too” he says, as he hands me a piece of paper and a pen.

“Thanks so much Peter” I say, as I begin to write down Maria’s details.

“It’s my job” he replies. I quickly note down my mum’s number as well and then I hand the paper back to him.

“Thanks and there’s one more thing I need from you” he tells me, as he sorts through some of the papers. “I need you to fill this form out for me” he says, handing me a form.

“What is it?” I ask him.

“It’s your plea” he explains. I fill out the form as ‘innocent’ before giving it back to him. He gathers up all the papers, before putting them into his brief case. “Look, Thomas. I can arrange for you to be moved to a different unit, if you’d like. You’ll only be there for two nights, but it’s worth it, isn’t it? They’ll treat you well there, ok?”

“What do you mean, ‘They’ll treat me well’?” I ask him, in confusion.

“Well, you’ll have a mattress and a TV; after all you’ve not been to court yet, so there’s no reason for them to treat you like a criminal. So, if you want, I can arrange for you to be moved there. Would you like that?” he asks.

“Will I get to call people?” I ask, thinking about Maria.

“I’m afraid not. The court can’t risk you sharing information about the trial with any outsiders, but at least you will be comfortable”

“Alright. Do it” I say. “Anything is better than being in this horrible place”

“Ok, I’ll talk to a few people and then hopefully you’ll be taken over there this after noon” he says, before standing up.

“Right, come on Thomas” the guard says, from the door. I stand up and make my way over to him, where he leads me back to my cell.

At least I won’t have to sleep in this horrible place tonight. I wouldn’t even keep an animal in conditions like this, it’s disgusting. This place hasn’t even been cleaned and I have to go to the toilet, in the same room as I sleep. How is that healthy, not to mention the fact that there is no running water for me to wash my hands after. It’s like they don’t care about hygiene in this place! But I guess they only see us as animals and I can’t blame them for hating me, I mean, they think I killed someone. I would never do something like that, but I guess they can only go off what they’ve been told.
