"You know, what's your problem Paisley? Don't you understand that I don't get it?" I heard the chair scrape across the kitchen floor as I slammed my geometry text book closed and stormed out of the Thompson house, seething. I was fed up with Matthew and how blind-sided he was. Here I was with my heart breaking into tiny cracks and he doesn't even act like he notices it! I had had enough, if he wants Stacy then he can have her, but not due to me! "Paisley! Where are you going?" A long way from you, I thought. I had already been to Matt's house for over two hours because he insisted that he needed tutoring with Geometric Proofs, but the whole time he wouldn't shut up about Stacy Miller, my best friend since 6th grade. I mean, I know Stacy's beautiful and funny and all, but I don't need him reminding me. You might not get it but I do, is what I really wanted to scream at him as I speed-walked my way to my grey Mustang GT. "How is it so hard to not understand, Matthew? Line BC equals Line DC because of the Transitive Proof, therefore Triangle ABC equals Triangle EDC due to the SAS Postulate. Do you know what that means? It basically means that you need a new tutor, and here's a great suggestion, how about Stacy? Because I've noticed that you don't understand a lot of things lately, and you need to make up your mind what you want. I won't sit around waiting for everything to click and for you to finally realize what you've been blind-sided to." I risked a glance back at him as my eyes began to water. His hair, the perfect combination of hazel brown that looked so soft to touch, the hair that I always wanted to run my fingers through, was falling in his face as he stared at me, dumbfounded. "Paisley, what are you talking about?" "I'm talking about you, me, us. What is this? I actually thought for a short second that you wanted me as much as I wanted you. I thought that we could be something, and I don't get why you led me on so much. The way you would smile at me and look at me like I was more than....it doesn't even matter now. Goodbye, Matthew." I closed my door as I heard his voice, did he sound concerned? No heart, stop it, I thought. My heart was playing tricks on me again, like it always does. "Wait, what? Paisley you thought I-" and that's when I pulled out of 2301 Johnstone Dr. What an honor it was to have my heart broken by Aarondale High School's greatest football player, #22. What I didn't know however, was that as Matthew watched my car drive away, he too felt a little piece of his heart break. He just didn't understand why yet.
