Sam's POV

I pulled up in front of Abby's house and texted her that I was outside.

I waited maybe 2 seconds before she came out of her house. Did I make her wait? And she's so cute today. She has her hair in two French braids.

She gets in my car and looks at me without saying anything. Is something on my face?

I break the silence. "Hey"

No response from her.

"Abby? You okay? You're staring."

Her cheeks pick up color and she shakes her head a little bit, like she's trying not to think about something. "Oh sorry. I'm fine. Thanks for picking me up."

She's cute when she's embarrassed.

"No problem at all. Anytime you need a ride to school, just let me know."

"Thanks. I really appreciate it"

I started the car and headed towards the school.

Time to enact the find out more about Abby plan.

Start off easy. Get to know her. Kris's words replayed in my mind.

"When did you start playing tennis?" I asked her.

"I've been playing practically my whole life."

"No wonder you're so good. I bet you'll make varsity."

"Really? That would be so cool"

"I think you will. You'd be a really good addition to the team."

"Thanks!"

I was focused on the road but I could see her smiling from the corner of my eye.

"What do you think of the rest of the team?" I asked Abby.

"Hmm. They're all really nice."

"Have you gotten closer to any of the other freshman trying out?"

"Yeah, Nicole. I don't know if you remember her."

"I do. The cute girl with red hair right?"

"Yeah, that's her. We compared schedules and we actually share two classes"

"That's great!" I'm glad she already has friends going into some of her classes. Although, I doubt she would have any trouble making friends.

"Is there a lot of drama in the team?" Abby's question caught me off guard for a second.

"Not really. Why do you ask?"

"I was just wondering since I'm a freshman so I don't really know the team yet."

"Well there's no drama between team members but trust me, there is definitely drama for some particular people."

"Who?" I was debating whether I should tell her or let her find out on her own.

"Hmm. I'll let you find out. It's more fun that way." I guess I'll let her find out for herself.

"Oh come on. Is it dating drama?"

"You'll find out." I wasn't budging.

"Are you dating anyone?" I got a bit flustered by her question. I've been asked this question so many times and I still haven't found the best response that doesn't make me look like a loser who's never dated anyone because my parents don't let me.

"Not at the moment."

"Really? I thought for sure you'd be dating someone."

I know for a fact I'm blushing right now. "Yep, I'm single."
