"Hello and welcome to Times News New York City. It has been three days since an unknown disaster in the Black Mesa Research facility opened up aptly named 'Portal Storms' across the world. Unknown military forces have entered our airspace's here in the United States. The US military has also begun communicating with a friendly alien species know as the Vortigaunts." A news report in New York City spoke.
One day later.
Inside an apartment building in New York City, the tv was on, it buzzed a news report "This is the Times New York. It has been four days after a disaster erupted in the Black Mesa Research Facility. The president of the United States is officially declaring war on our invaders, who our new vortigaunt allies are calling 'The combine' the human death toll is currently at 2 billion."
Two hours later, the same apartment room lay in ruins, the tv remained on. "T-the human death toll is now at... f-four billion human lives. Any attempt to communicate with the combine has been futile. T-they have been shooting any human on sight."
On the streets of New York, soldiers and civilians screamed for mercy and help as large tripod like beasts stomped over the ruins and bodies. They were firing at anything that moved. The black mesa incident had opened up inter dimensional portals all over the world, and allowed them to arrive... the combine or, the universal union.
A rooftop, once a peaceful haven overlooking the cityscape, had transformed into a frenetic battleground. Soldiers clad in tattered uniforms fought valiantly against the relentless onslaught of Combine forces. The large machine at the center of the chaos stood as a last bastion of hope, its purpose shrouded in mystery.
Above, a darkened sky bore witness to the ominous presence of over fifty massive Combine spaceships, their sleek exteriors casting an unsettling shadow over the beleaguered city. The air resonated with the staccato rhythm of gunfire, punctuated by the thunderous explosions that seemed to reverberate through the very fabric of the war-torn metropolis.
The once vibrant and bustling streets below were now reduced to rubble-strewn remnants of urban life, a stark reminder of the cataclysmic events that had unfolded in the wake of the Black Mesa disaster. The human death toll had skyrocketed to unimaginable heights, surpassing four billion lives lost.
Amidst the chaos, desperate soldiers held their ground, determined to defend the enigmatic machine that represented humanity's last stand. The sounds of gunfire echoed off the skyscrapers, blending with the distant wails of sirens and the low hum of the Combine spacecraft hovering ominously above.
As the battle raged on, a sense of futility hung in the air. Attempts at communication with the enigmatic Combine had proven fruitless, leaving the beleaguered remnants of humanity to confront an overwhelming force whose motives remained elusive.
The rooftop, now stained with the blood of valiant soldiers, bore witness to a struggle for survival that transcended the confines of the battlefield. Each gunshot and explosion marked not only the fight for a city but the resilience of a species facing the brink of extinction.
