I walked into FredBears Family Diner, not wanting to see anyone I knew because of my stupid brother. I locked my grey Honda behind my back and clipped the chain onto a belt loop.
"Come on! Come on! Freddy is gonna sing!" Caleb yelled as he grabbed my hand and pulled me into the restaurant and towards the stage area.
"Caleb, your eight now. So why are you still obsessed with that stupid bear."
"Kailiae! I'm not obsessed! And he isn't stupid." He pouted as we walked to the show stage.
"Hi there everybody! How are you today?" I heard the large, over exaggerated, brown bear call through his microphone. I looked up to see the animatronics walk into the stage.
There were multiple shouts of,"Good!" "Awesome!" "Okay!" And some muffled,"Could be better."'s
"Let's sit down at a table." I said as I led Caleb through the crowd of Freddy Fanatics.
"But Freddy walks around and says hi to us! Don't you want to talk to Freddy?" Caleb asked as we reached our table.
"Kailiae?! Your here too?!" I heard a familiar voice call from behind. I turned in my seat to see Melody, my best friend.
"Hey girl! Get over here!" I yelled as she ran over and hugged me. I looked over at Caleb who was happily looking at the performance and thought, it wouldn't hurt to go to the arcade without him for a few minutes.
"Melody! Do you want to go to the arcade? I think we both know that's the only thing this place is good for." I said getting up out of my chair.
"But what about Caleb?" She asked looking over at my brother.
"He's going to be fine. Right Caleb?" I asked looking behind me to face my brother.
"Huh?" He looked over.
"See?" I said looking back at Melody.
"I guess so. I've got a five, how much for you?" Melody asked as we walked over to the arcade.
"I've got a ten, but I have to save five for Caleb's lunch." I said grabbing out my purple wallet.
"Okay. You can put the ten in the machine and I'll give you my five." Melody said as I ran my fingers through my blonde pixie cut.
"Okay. Hey, I've always wondered, what's with these stupid animatronics and everyone obsessing over them?" I asked as we reached the coin exchange machine. I put in my ten and received 100 tokens.
"I don't know. But I think they are pretty cool. I mean, what other place has walking, talking, singing, almost realistic animatronics?" She said as I grabbed a Freddy themed coin bucket and scooped the coins inside.
"Well they honestly just creep me out. The only thing I like about about this place is the arcade." I said as I zipped my purse up with wallet inside. I walked over to the personalized mini-game machine that the establishment just installed. I looked at the price.
3 tokens
I'm fine with that. I put the tokens in the machine and played a game called, Mangle's Quest. There was only jump, right, and left buttons.
"Well this is stupid." I said walking around and collecting the missing peices to, mangle.
"It's not stupid! I think it's cute that they got they're own mini-games. Plus I think it has better controls than the regular 1984 consoles." Melody said as she played the same game on the machine next to me.
"Dude! Look at the graphics! It's pixelated and the music is just plain creepy!"
I said in defense of the stupid game. Well, more like offense. I collected the final piece but ran into the green shirt child.
"Shoot! Now I have to start over." I raged as I collected the pieces again. I collected the final piece without running into the child, and a small exit sign popped up in the bottom left corner.
"Well that's stupid. There's got to be more than that for three tokens." I said as I explored the small area. I finally reached the end of the hallway, but didn't run into a wall.
"Ooohhh, secret doors." I said, intrigued.
"Secret doors?" Melody said as she looked over at my screen."Cool!" She said as she went back to her game, now collecting cupcakes for the, duck? animatronic, Chica.
I fell down into another chamber, the screen showing a large willow tree with a red background. I shrugged and continued to explore in the poorly animated pixel world. I soon found a cake at the right wall, then the game pixeled out.
"Well hi there!" I heard a male voice say behind me. I jumped as I looked at the boy.
"Jeez. Please don't do that!" I said startled.
"I guess you found the cake, huh?" He said as he looked at the pixeled out screen.
"Yeah, please tell me, who are you?" I asked as the boy teared his eyes off the screen to look at me.
"Oh! Sorry, I'm so inconsiderate, my name is Hunter. I'm the night guard here. Tonight is actually my last night before I'm moved to the day shift." Hunter said as he fished through his pockets for something.
"Speaking of night guard," He said as he pulled a crumpled price of paper from his pocket,"I think you should take it for me." He said handing me the paper. I looked at the header, reading
Night Guard Needed
Become a face of the classic FredBears Diner. Night guard needed from 12 A.M. to 6 A.M. 24 dollars a day, 120 dollars every five. Pay check received every five days. To apply for the shift, please call 616-942-FAZBEAR. See you tomorrow!
"Well, I have been looking for a job." I considered.
"Great! Michael is backstage working mechanics if you want to talk to him." Hunter said smiling, almost relieved.
"Okay then, I guess I'll talk to him now." I said as Hunter left the arcade.
"Who was that?" Melody asked as her gaze went from over my shoulder to on the paper.
"He was the night guard. I guess he wanted me to take his place?" I asked slowly.
"I guess. We'll save the tokens for another time, lets go get you that job!" Melody said as she grabbed my hand and ran out of the arcade and towards backstage.
"Okay okay." I said as I glanced at the stage and saw something totally unexpected.
My brother up there singing the Fazbear theme song with Freddy.
"Woa woa woa woa, wait a sec." I said as I pulled my hand out of hers and walked up to Caleb on the stage.
"What are you doing up there!" I whisper screamed.
"I'm singing!" He yelled. I saw Hunter walk up.
"Please get off the stage!" He whisper screamed as well.
"But-"
"Have a Fazbear Fantastic day!" Freddy finalized as he cut Caleb off. He held Calebs hand and led him off stage.
"Why were you up there?" Hunter asked.
"Freddy invited me!" Caleb happily announced.
"Well he's not supposed to." Hunter said as he walked over to Freddy and led him to me.
"I'm going backstage if you want to come." Hunter invited.
"Uh, would Caleb be allowed? And Melody?" I asked motioning towards Melody and Caleb.
"Of course they would!" Hunter said as he led me, Freddy, Melody, and Caleb backstage.
"Michael! Freddy brought a kid onstage again!" Hunter yelled once we entered through the, employees only door.
"Again? Someone must be tampering with his wiring again. I'll go tell the kids outside that Freddy has caught a-"
"Cold? You used fever up yesterday sir." Hunter cut him off.
"Of course. I'll be out there in five." Michael said. Michael looked like he would be 47, only thirtyish years older than Hunter might have been. Brown hair turning white, like Hunters. Except, not turning white. I noticed the similar facial features and finalized that they were father and son.
"Hey Hunter, are you Michaels son?" I asked.
"No. He's my great cousin. You're the first one to point that out though. Hey Michael! I think I found someone to take the night shift!" Hunter yelled towards the end.
"Really?" He asked as he turned around from leading Freddy farther off stage."What is you're name?" Michael asked.
"Kailiae. But, I don't have a work permit. I'm only fifteen and a half, and I just earned my drivers license." I said nervously.
"Well, when do you graduate from 9th grade?" He asked.
"I get out next Friday actually." I said in a as-a-matter-if-fact tone.
"Then you get your work permit then. I'll have Hunter take the Night shift and Day shift until Friday." Michael said as he led me, Melody and Caleb over to the side of the stage. He grabbed a fresh piece of paper with questions like, Name? Shirt size? Previous work experience?
"Thanks. So it pays 120 a week?" I asked.
"Every five days." Michael corrected.
"Okay. Hey, what time is it?" I asked, taking my phone out of my pocket and powering it on.
"13:47? What kind of time is that?" Hunter asked looking over my shoulder.
"I'm on military time. It's a symbol of my dad." I said as I put my phone back in my pocket.
"Is he in the military?" He asked.
"No, he died in it." I said nonchalantly.
"Oh, I'm sorry for you're loss." Hunter said sadly.
"It's fine. I didn't know him that well anyways." I replied."Come on Caleb. I'm going to get you pizza with Melody and then we're going to go home." I said as I thanked Michael and Hunter, then left through the Employees Only door.
"Hey Kailiae!" I heard Hunter yell at me before I closed the door.
"Yeah?" I said as I looked back at the 17ish year old.
"Welcome to the Fazbear Family!" He called as he waved goodbye. I smiled and closed the door behind me as I left.
