As the sun went down lying on her soft, bed, Lily Potter listened. The beautiful, soft music of a jeweled egg her father buried in the attic had soothed her and calmed her every night as she waited for her letter. Looking out the window, she saw a pink-orange sky that made her feel warm inside. "That must be from when he was in the triwizard tournament!" She thought.

"Father," she called softly, "Tell me why you don't like that egg."

"It's a long story," her father began, sitting on her bed, "In my fourth year at Hogwarts, I was entered into the TriWizard Tournament. The last challenge made me hate that egg. Cedric Diggory and I were in the maze and we saw Voldemort. He killed Cedric on the spot. I can't remember how I got out though." The sky was beginning to darken now.

"Oh." Said Lily.

"Lil, it's time for bed. Goodnight" her father said.

"Goodnight" Lily said and fell into a deep sleep filled with happy dreams and sad ones as well.

That morning, Lily awoke to the music of the pretty golden egg. She climbed up to the attic and dug it out from where Harry had left it.

"Wow!" She whispered. She felt its jewels and the egg itself. The egg was golden and the jewels shone like a rainbow in a golden sky. She buried it back to its original spot and climbed back down.

"Lily!" Ginny Potter called.

"Coming mother!" Lily yelled.

"Harry Potter!" Gena Drahki called. A flash of light blinded him momentarily. Gena was carrying a camera and was taking pictures of him for 'The Daily Prophet'.

"Gena, save that for later. I'm busy."

"Harry. We need pictures of you for The Prophet or else I'm fired." She flung back her curly blonde hair, identical to that of Rita Skeeter's.

"Gena, please. Later. I need to find some things for Lily here." He smiled. As he walked, he felt more and more excited. He had Lily with him, so Gena didn't need to take any pictures.

"Dad, where are we going?" Lily asked curiously.

"Lil, we need to go to Diagon Alley to find all of your school supplies. It's your first year at Hogwarts in a week and you need supplies. We already bought James and Albus their supplies." Harry explained.

They walked into The Leaky Cauldron.

"Hi 'Arry!" Said a very familiar voice.

"Hagrid! I can't talk now, but I will talk later!" He waved goodbye to Hagrid.

They walked faster now. Harry tapped on certain bricks in a brick wall just outside the pub. Astonishingly they rearranged themselves to create a pathway. It was the most crowded and loud place Lily had ever been. Witches and wizards filled shops. The only empty shop was Ollivander's.

They got her robes, hat, gloves, and winter cloak.

"Time to get your wand!" Said Harry, grinning. They walked in to Ollivanders.

"Harry! Long time no see!" Said Ollivander.

"Hello, Mr. Ollivander!" Lily said excitedly. "I'm ready to get my wand!"

"Ah... Lets see... How about a Birch , Dragon Heartstring core... 9 1/2 inches?" Ollivander asked. Lily tried the wand, but all it did was make all the glass in the shop break.

"We'll that's certainly not it!" Said Ollivander, laughing, "Perhaps an Oak, Unicorn Tail Hair core 13 2/3 inches?" He handed her the wand, but all but one wand flew to the floor.

"Lets see.. Hmm" He said, picking up the last wand on the shelf, "Try this Ivy wand with Unicorn Tail Core, 12 inches." Lily picked up the wand and waved it. A blinding light and a strong gust of wind blew back her curly bright orange hair. The wand had chose her. Ollivander fixed everything in the shop with a wave and a flick of his wand.

"Why thank you, Mr. Ollivander!" Lily said, "I love it!" The wand was beautiful and fit her perfectly. She checked the list and saw one last thing. The one thing she was most excited for.

"Dad!" She said, "Can we go get an animal?"

"Sure!" Harry said, and they walked over. She didn't want a toad, no. She looked at the owls and cats but only one caught her eye. He was a dark silverish color and had stormy eyes the color of blue-gray and was about the size of a loaf of bread. It had a thin face and a long tail. He looked sad, stuck in a cage. He looked at her hopefully and purred as she petted him.

"Father," said Lily, "May I have him?"

"Sure, Lil" Harry said.

"That will be 146 galleons." Said the shop owner, "He's the best we ever bred, and he goes by the name of 'Whynn' if you like him."

"Ok" said Harry, handing him the money. Lily hugged Whynn tight.

"This is a perfect day!"she thought

As a week rolled by, Whynn proved to be the perfect pet. He loved Lily, and gave a warning growl to anyone who got too close to her. He always nuzzled Lily at night when it was time for bed. Whynn also loved to take letters to people. So he proved better than an owl. He could stealthily swim and always loved watching James, Albus, and Harry play Quidditch. He listened to her stories, and cared for her deeply. Nobody could tear the two apart. Whynn was loyal and caring to Lily. Now Lily could barely wait for Hogwarts. All was perfect and Lily was perfectly happy.
