~_~Flashback~_~

My house was at the top of a small hill at least two miles away from the busy streets of London. A small creek ran through the woods that I would play in as a child. In front of my door was a newish bike that I had received for my fifteenth birthday about a month ago.

My family was middle-class. Not rich, but not poor either, so life was pretty good. I had food to eat and a roof over my head.

Inside, I was helping my mom peel potatoes for lunch. At my feet, my little brother was playing with a wooden home-made train. Behind the house, my father was chopping firewood to fuel the fire of the stove.

It was another peaceful day. Nothing out of the ordinary, that is, until a man covered in black entered the room.

"Put your hands up or the boy dies! Got it?",he said, revealing a gun and pointing it at my little brother. We all put our hands up and do as he says.

"Good. Now I want her to gather all the jewelry and other valuables in the house. Use this bag and come directly back here in 10 minutes or you know the consequences."

He promptly threw a burlap sack in my direction. I caught it and did as I was told.

My first stop was my parents bedroom. I knew mom had most of the jewelry kept on her desk inside a jewelry box. Inside were necklaces and earrings in both silver and gold adorned with jewels of various color. My mother's silver engagement ring with a 2 carat diamond glittered at me and I put it in the bag with everything else. I also grabbed father's hidden stash of cash hidden inside the dresser behind his socks.

I debated on getting into the safe underneath the floor boards and getting the family crest and ruby rings, but thought against it. What the robber didn't know wouldn't kill him.

My next stop was to my room. I quickly stuffed all my jewelry, including my favorites, into the bag as well as all my own money and made my way downstairs to the kitchen. I slowly entered the room, so as to not startle the robber, and walked to him.

He roughly grabbed the sack from my hands and rummaged through everything. While the robber was distracted, I silently walked over to my brother. He was scared, whimpering, and on the verge of tears. I got on the floor and held him close, quietly shushing him and patting his head.

"Where is it?! They said it would be here! Are you sure this is everything?"

I replied a simple yes, but it didn't seem to satisfy him enough. He raised the gun towards my brother again.

Seeing the threat to her children, my mother's instincts kicked in and she quickly moved so that her body was protecting both of us.

Bang!

I watched helplessly as her body fell to the floor. My brother pulled away from the grasp of my arms and ran to our mother's side.

"Mommy? Mommy, wake up!" he said as he shook her lightly. She was unresponsive and not even my brother's cries were enough to save her.

"I told you not to move, didn't I?"

Bang!

I flinched as blood splattered across my face. Tears began to fall from my eyes. I was next and I knew it.

He pointed his gun directly at my heart.

Bang!

I heard that dreaded sound as my body fell backwards and landed with a thud. A pool of blood formed around me. A sharp pain in my right shoulder reverberated throughout my whole body.

The intruder had miscalculated and the bullet missed its target; instead, it hit an important artery and I was now going to bleed to death as his footsteps quickly dissipated.

The scene before me started fading as black darkness surrounded me. Suddenly a dim blue light appeared, just as I felt like I was floating.

"Do you want to live?"

"What?"

"Do you want to live? Do you want revenge?"

A picture of my family smiling happily together was shown before me.

"Yes! I want to live! Please, help me!"

"How strong should this contract be? Hmm. Ah, yes! I know. I will take half of your soul now. So in other words, you would be half demon. I will bring you back to life and in one year, I will come to take the other half of your soul, regardless of whether you find the killer or not. Let's face it. In your current human state, you're weak and worthless, but as a demon you would be strong with the ability to defend yourself. Do you accept? Are you willing to abide by what's stated in our contract?"

Beggars can't be choosers, especially if one's begging for their life. At least I won't die.

"I accept! I agree! Just help me!"

I suddenly breathed in a sharp breath. My eyes opened to reveal the bloody scene I had once been dead in. Our killer was long gone.

Help, I need to get help!

I exited the house to find the body of my father. Now I know why he wasn't there to save us. He was already dead. I wanted to mourn everyone's death, but I needed to get help, to inform the police, to talk to someone. I started to run toward the forest. I needed to get to the nearest city and the forest was a shortcut.

Who would believe me? Who would care?

The forest was getting thick as I started speeding past large trees. Behind me, I keep hearing the snapping of twigs, as if someone were following.

Am I just being too paranoid?

My lungs felt as if they were going to burst. I stop and lean against an old oak tree as I try to catch my breath. All around me there were crunching leaves, but I didn't see anyone nearby as my eyes dart here and there. Eventually, I spotted a family of baby rabbits exploring the world with their mother. I had scared them as I was tearing through the forest.

Ssssssss

I screech as I feel something creeping over my leg. I look down and see a long snake start to wrap around my ankle. I start to let out hysterical laughs as the world starts spinning around me.

I can't believe this is happening!

Auther's Note
Sometimes I wonder how I have an easier time writing stories of horror. Then I remember that I have watched many crime TV shows and horror movies. Lol
