"First things first, I'm da realist. Drop dis and let da whole world feel it. I bet 'chu wanna bad chick like dis, drop it low & pick it up just like dis," Stacy was rapping to the top of her lungs as we cruised towards Aarondale High. I was never much of a rapper, so I was waiting for the perfect moment to...."I'M SO FANCY, YOU ALREADY KNOOOOW! I'M IN THE FAST LANE, FROM LA TO TOKYO!" I joined in with Stacy as we turned into AHS's student parking lot. Stace and I rode together to school most days, and we hardly ever did anything without each other. Honesty I believe that the only difference between us was that where I'm captain of the AHS Hawks's Guard team, she's captain of the AHS Lady Hawks's softball team. Stace and I pass for sisters all the time, and where I'm outgoing she's quiet until you open her up. She knows everything about me, and I her, and I'm sure that at least three people at our school thought we were gay at some point or another. I meant it when I said we do everything together, well everything you could possibly do together that's not considered weird. But then again, who cares what other people think? Anyways, as I skillfully manuvered my car into lot 135, Stacy noticed Matthew Thompson's car down in lot 216. "Oooooh look, your lover's here!" Stacy teased at me. "Stace, that boy is not my lover any more than you are Luke Bryan's wife. Besides, everyone has a crush on Matthew Thompson" I commented, adding extra emphasis on the 'everyone' and rolling my eyes. Stacy laughed as she got out of my car. As we walked across the parking lot and up the flight of steps leading to the school doors, we passed Matthew. "Hey Stacy," Matthew nodded in Stacy's direction. Stacy lifted her head up as if to say, "Sup." Although he did look at me and make eye contact with me, I did not recieve a greeting from Matthew Thompson. That's about right, I thought with a sigh as we entered the building and went to our first class of the morning, Pre Calc. "And the fun begins," I tell Stacy as we take our seats near the back of Mrs. Huggins's room. "Good morning darlings, I hope you all sleep well last night. Now first things first....." "I'm the realist" Stacy mouthed at me. "Paisley, I need you to come back and see me before lunch because I have favor that I would like to discuss with you. I have a student in my third period geometry class that desperately needs some tutoring, and I believe you'd be the perfect tutor for him. What do you say?" Mrs. Huggins asks me. "Um yeah I guess, but who am I tutoring?" I question. "Matthew Thompson." Stacy busts out laughing so hard that the whole class turns and looks at us. "Are you up for the challenge?" Mrs. Huggins asks me. "Sure am!" I confirm enthusiastically. Truth is, was the challenge up for me?
