Chapter 3 The Nucleus

I stared out at the lake.

The lake was filled with ruined boats, part of the ruins acting as if a makeshift path to the different boats. Most were fishing boats, others seemed to be tug boats of sorts.

But what got my attention was the water. It was murky green in color, and their was just something foregin to it, which off put me, likely because I was a son of Poseidon.

"Percy, why'd you stop?" Annabeth asked, and I saw her turn to me from the corner of my vision.

"The water its..." I trailed off not knowing how to put what I felt into words.

"Irradiated for one." Y/N commented. "Mirelurks probably in it somewhere, not to mention any of the mutated fishies."

"Is all water like this?" I asked looking at him.

"This lake especially thanks to the nucleus." He commented. "Lots of radiation leaked out, well even before the military dumped it into the lake so..."

"What are mirelurks?" Grover asked, he was still nervous but not as much as before, but I did notice him inch away from the water, which wasn't that far considering the narrow path we were on.

"Mutated crustaceans, come in three main types, normal Mirelurk, the hunter and King. Then theirs the Queens' which are big and you'll surely notice her." Y/N said before I notice his eyes light up a little and he pointed to something across the lake. "Their's one there."

It was difficult to see through the fog, but it had thinned out a bit. What I saw was about five foot six, its shell was dark brown. That's all I could tell with it's back to us.

"The queens are bigger?" Annabeth asked staring at the thing.

"Yeah, about...." Y/N put a finger on his chin in thought, "Four or so times bigger."

"That's... comforting." Grover gulped, "Percy do you think they'll listen to you?"

"The radstag did with you." I shrugged unsure.

"Nice and all, but lets get going." Y/N said, once again pressing us forward.

We had been walking for the past 2 hours passing by mostly ruined cars and dead tree, an occasional radstag staring as we passed, but overall nothing that screamed dangerous, so I do-

"ONLY ONE OF US SURIVIES THIS HUMANS, AND IT WONT BE YOU!" I heard a shout along with a beeping, and we all spun to see....

Well it was humanoid, but its skin was like the lake, a murky green, and it was buff and wore what looked to be crude clothing. What caught my eye was the thing in it's hand that was beeping as it ran towards us, it was almost fourty feet away.

"Suicider!" Y/N yelped and quickly snapped his finger towards the thing, which I just now noticed six more of the same things almost ten feet behind it.

"So what was-" Annabeth asked but was cut off by an explosion almost thiry fiveish feet away.

And when I say explosion, I mean it. Their was  a big flash, and I swore I saw it through my eyelids, and the force knocked me back a little along with Annabeth and Grover, who looked positiviely startled.

When the dust cleared, and the flash finally left my eyes letting me see again, their was nothing there. The humanoid hulk like monsters were all gone.

"Where did they go?" Grover asked.

"That was a mini nuke explosion." Y/N stated blankly, "They're everywhere likely."
