Chapter 1

I thrust my sword up and blocked the blow from the imaginary enemy. Then I slipped the knife from my sleeve and stabbed into what would’ve been someone’s neck if it was real. I had memorized every different fighting move ever taught in books. I placed my sword down, realizing it was midday. I usually spent the first half of my day training. The rest was spent collecting different herds and stocking up on them.

I didn’t really understand why I still did that, since I have an almost unlimited amount in my satchel. It was just something to do to pass the time. When you live in a world completely by yourself, you need something to do. I live in Deaconna, a world that used to be filled with life until the war happened. Many people died on many sides. So they abandoned Deaconna. Everyone was told that the war had turned it into a wasteland.

That was so the war would stop. Everyone just left, everyone besides me. I am the guardian of the Tree of Life. The tree that not only created deaconna but the rest of the universe, too. It is said that the gods themselves created the tree of life. Each of them tributed a bit of their magic into the tree. Then they were never seen again. No one knows why they disappeared. They just let mankind do what they wanted.

Though they didn’t leave something else behind. When the first king and queen of each kingdom was crowned, a weapon of magic based on the Magic in their kingdom was gifted to them. No one truly knows if this was a gift from the gods and goddesses, but most suspect. As an act of peace, they placed the weapons in Deaconna. The war broke out not even a century later.

I was never told the reason my parents didn’t want us a part of the war. My parents had tried for so long to not even go to war. Unfortunately, the war was brought to our doorstep when we refused to take part in it. So we had to fight a war we didn’t want to be in. It went on for centuries on end. There seemed to be no end to it. So they devised a plan to abandon the world. They want everyone to believe they had turned into a wasteland because of the war.

That is why I never left, why I’m still here. So the days go by and I do the same thing. I train with any type of weapon I can find and I gather stuff I might need if I ever have to leave. I never plan on it, but something tells me I will need this stuff. Which is why I was grabbing my satchel and walking down the path. This path led into the forest. It brought me to some of the most common herbs.

Later on, I would travel in debt of the planet to retrieve the most valuable and almost extinct herbs. Since Deaconna has every type of magic, every type of environment grows here. From the frostfin to insanely hot. The world creates more every time the Tree of Life creates another planet. Which is why we have what we call the catacombs of Dakota. Different environments shift into the catacombs when there’s not enough room for another to be created. The world just makes more room.

I myself have explored those catacombs I’ve been here for too long, not too. I’ve explored every inch, gathering herbs and objects from places that are not supposed to exist. Places that have never even written about. I placed all that stuff in my satchel. Thanks to some pixie Magic I’m able to have a satchel with unlimited room that never runs out. The old artifacts are from the people that used to live there.

Every unique environment, used to house a different type of creature born just for that environment. When the war came, they were called out to help defend our home. So when the time came, they abandoned it too. The only living creature that does still exist here beside me is the Pixies. The Pixies are magical beings that are born to help any type of magical creature. Each pixie is born with the magic of who they’re connected to and on the same day that person is born.

The only way to find your pixie is to go to the place that is your first regret. Most unfortunately don’t know where that is, so most never find their pixie. Pixies are born on deaconna, blooming from the flowers around the tree of life. As soon as they bloom, they go to the place they are needed. I have never met my Pixie when I probably never will. I do, however, know exactly where my first regret happened.
