Chapter I: WHY AM I SO ON EDGE

Here I am after sneaking out as always, to read. I love reading, books can take you anywhere whether its Paris, Canada, or a fantasy world where elves and warlocks live, reading is an adventure of the mind, the descriptions can take you to the places you most desire and the characters can be engaging and relatable they can make you feel accepted they can make you feel like you. Reading has gotten me through tough times and-

what are you doing up there? Oliver asked,

What are you doing down there?

Well I asked first. he said with a joking tone. Oliver and I have known each other for a long time. We don't run into each other that much but whenever we do he is always kind to me, which is more than I can say for a lot of people. I mostly don't have friends, I have trouble trusting people due to past experiences. I used to be a very open person that got a log with everyone until- him, I realized Oliver was staring at me with a blank expression I figured I had completely zoned out.

Sooooo, he said with anticipation I believe you were about to tell me what you were doing up there

I was just reading I responded

Is it a good book?

Are you kidding my face lit up immediately it's great I would definitely recommend it he smiled at me.

Also how are you getting down from there? he asked with a now puzzled face, I proceeded to bend my news and jumped as my eyes closed. This didn't feel like the ground as I opened my eyes. I looked up to see Oliver's face.

Are you out of your mind, you're lucky I caught you, he yelled as he put me down.

He placed his hand on his forehead. I decided not to tell him but he looked like a disappointed teacher after their students did something stupid.

how did you get up there in the first place

a Pegasus helped of course

he got tired of waiting and probably flew away, I said with a guessing tone

why were you reading up there anyway, there are so many places, safe- on the ground

It's quiet up there and the view is incredible

oh yes I almost forgot he said your mom was worried and asked were you were so I told her I would find you

oh gods I didn't notice the time passing by I said I would only be away half an hour this time, gods I have to go

yes, later I said hurrying to meet my mother you see my mother is all I have she raised me all by herself she is a real life hero and when it comes to my dad well I don't know who he is although my mom seemed to really love him all i know is he is a god but my mom can't tell me who which is frustrating since he hasn't claimed me yet I'm almost 16 but nothing no note so symbol no sign nothing just stories I hear from my mom.

I made my way home in the north side of camp Jupiter I don't stay in the dorms since my mom lives here and it's better this way, because in every place there is always some bully and not being claimed and not spending much time with others I always get singled out I walked inside greeting my mother with a smile.

it is my job as your mother, so yes "she said with a smile kissing my cheek excited for tomorrow "she asked

you bet I am, spending my birthday with the coolest mom in the whole world

yeah I want this birthday to be extra special she said that with a worried edge in her voice making me worried

is everything ok mom "she looked worried for a second but then quickly hid it with a smile

I'm fine sweetie, everything will be fine I don't like the way she said that it made me wonder if her words were true. I felt a little on edge. Why did it feel like something was coming my way?
