Dec 13, 1950.                                             Jessie Matthews

Dear Diary,

Today was swell, my roommate and I had a fun time moving my stuff into the apartment! I am really beginning to enjoy the place, Abigail and I have started chatting about our personal lives and how our childhoods were. She's only 22 years old, while I, on the other hand, am six years older! She makes me feel old. Anywho it is currently 9:30 at night so I should...

"Jessie!!" Abigail says as she barges into Jessie's room, "my goodness Abigail, you startled me!" Jessie stutters as she clutches her chest. Abigail chuckles "My apologies, would you like to come out with me tonight?" She asks gleefully, "Where? Shouldn't you be asleep at this time of night?" Jessie says with an eyebrow raised. Abigail just smiles "I was going to go to a bar, I was wondering if I could treat you to a glass of wine?" Jessie looks up as her cheeks slightly redden, "Ugh, well I suppose so." She says brushing off the strange feeling she feels in her stomach. Abigail smiles wide "Great! It's a date! I, ha, mean.. well maybe you could find yourself a man to marry?!" Jessie's eyes widen "I would never marry a man who I met in such a sinful environment..!" She says as she scoffs and shakes her head. Abigail giggles, "alright well come along!"

...Never mind diary! I'm going out for the night! Abigail has offered me a glass of wine, she's calling my name from the other room so I must get going! Goodnight!

They have been sitting in those seats for about an hour, drinking wine and chatting, when all of a sudden a man walks up to Jessie "would you like to dance?" He asks her as he stretches out his arm. Jessie, has became a bit drunken at this point in time and gladly accepts his offer, leaving Abigail there sitting alone. She sat and watched as Jessie was spun around by this man, she felt oddly jealous as she wished to be the one in the man's place. Just as she thought about it, a young woman came up to her and asked if she would like to dance with her.. in a more secretive room. Abigail smiles and kindly agrees as she follows this woman to the back of the building where they begin their slow dance to the sound of the jazz music. The man the Jessie had accompanied had left so she was left to go find Abigail, she walked down the hall and saw her as she danced just how Jessie was dancing earlier with the man. In shock Jessie gasped and Abigail and the woman turn to look at her, "oh, Jessie hey, I'll only be a few more minutes, how about you go get another drink huh?" Abigail says giving her a wink. Jessie cheeks flashed red, why did she feel this way, this odd anger filling up within her, she stormed out of the bar and back to the apartment.
