(Kali)The crescent moon shined bright through the trees of what seemed to be a never ending dead forest. My vision was blurred. My senses hampered, as my stomach growled. It had been weeks since I've eaten a real meal. I'd been roaming from forest to forest for anything filling. The cold winter had caused any possible meal I could have found to hide. Any territory with a meal was safe guarded by a pack I couldn't possibly hope to deal with given my current state. I'd been forced to uncharted territory, in search of food. The red forest.
The red forest was full of bodies. As pups, there were stories passed down from generation to generation about this forest. The details different in each pack, except for one; Those who go in, come back dead, pale, and drained. I'd seen it before. When times were desperate, those strong enough would brave the forest in hopes of finding the pasture. A large field, full of healthy, plump, high quality cattle. A werewolf's dream meal.
Only the stronger wolves had ever retrieved meat from the red forest alive, but never unscathed. The food is guarded by what we consider to be demons of some sort. A species not human, but not us. What was once thought to be another pack of wolves was something much more sinister. Beings who can outmatch us in strength, speed, durability, according to those who have been in the forest and lived.
But as my stomach grew hungrier, this information drifted away into food. A werewolf can only last so long without food before going crazy. I needed something, anything. However this forest was bare, barer than most. Even in the middle of winter a normal forest would have some leaves covering the trees, however, this one had none. It was almost silent, the only sound being those of my heavy footsteps as i drudged through the snow farther in.
I'd been dragging myself for an hour into the forest aimlessly, hoping to catch a scent of anything. A squirrel, bunny, anything would suffice at this point. I couldn't last much longer I knew. 10... maybe 15 more minutes I had before IT happened. I was dreading IT, the curses transformation into the beast I was.
The wind picked up, and I smelt it.
COW... HORSE.... FOOD
I picked up the pace, blindly following my nose through the forest. Using the last of my energy I forced my legs to run faster, I could feel my adrenaline rush as the smell got stronger and multiplied. The trees became a blur, all I was focused on was the food I was soon to devour.
I had soon reached an area where the trees had been chopped down. A large field, in the center of it, the scent was strongest. I could see a large fence, in the middle a large herd of cows, and off in the distance a large barnyard that most certainly held horses. I could taste it now, the sweet taste of meat on my tongue. I felt lighter than I had in ages, and I hadn't even reached my prize.
As I got closer, I saw it. For just a second. Had I not have been hungry maybe I could have dodged it, but my prize was right there. An arrow pierced my side. It burned as it made contact and broke through. The lightness in my body shifted into that of an anchor and I instantly fell to the ground. But the hunger in my body shot through. I grasped at the ground Infront of me. Pulling with my arms, slowly crawling closer and closer to my prize. I heard multiple steps get closer and closer, but my mind pushed them out. All I could think, smell, taste, was the meat only a few meters away from me.
"This one is determined" a voice said.
"I've never seen one withstands the effects" another commented.
"You know the drill lets take this one back" one commanded.
I was still crawling as the voices and unusual smell got closer and closer. As I had grabbed the fence to pull myself up, I felt something hit the back of my neck. My vision went black.
I jolted awake. My stomach growled with hunger, my body in pain as I could feel I was already half transformed. I went to grab my stomach and felt hard metal against it as I did. I noticed my arms and legs were chained up. Giving more thought into my surroundings, I noticed a plate of meat as well. My mind didnt question it as I immediately dug in, gulping down the meat and licking the plate clean. My body had transformed back to normal as my hunger was somewhat satisfied more than it had been in a while.
After eating, I looked more keenly at where I was. It was dark, and damp. After a few minutes my eyes adjusted to the darkness and I could see better. I was in a dungeon of some sort. I could see bars wrapped in some type of vine with purple flowers Infront me. The cage I was in was small, but not terribly cramped. I had walking room, and used the space to stretch. A normal person would be panicking, waking up in a strange place shackled in an unknown dungeon, i'm no badass or anything, however I had lived most of my life as a rouge wolf. This scene was all to familiar to me. I had walked too far into territory that wasnt mine.
I was glad whoever was holding me had fed me, I had enough energy to get up and trace my hands along the wall, feeling for any weak spots.
Their reinforced with steel. These people are precise
I thought, as I tried to plan an escape. I sat down and surveyed the area more. The cage was the key and lock type, and behind the bars of the cage was a comfy looking red chair that faced the cage. Behind that was a what seemed to be a long hallway, the hopefully led to an exit. As i got closer to the bars in order to peek my head through and see, I smelt something... someone. I heard foot steeps get closer and closer then heard a door unlock. I raced to the back of cage, and laid my body on the cold floor. Pretending to be asleep.
The persons footsteps got closer and closer until they stopped outside my cage. I could hear them as they sat in the chair.
Are they watching me
"I know your awake", the person said.
Shit
I couldn't decide on wither to approach this calmly, or take my chances of grabbing them from inside the cage and taking the keys. However, knowing the history of this forest, I took my chances. I sprung up, and ran to the bars of the cage, pushing my body up against the bars, the vines thorns had pricked my skin, nevertheless I stretched my hand through. A fatal flaw. I immediately felt the same burning sensation I had felt when i got shot with the arrow. My body once again, fell to the floor. This time, however I was paralyzed. I could only look up to see a short blonde woman gazing down at me from the chair she sat in.
She was in a long red dress, her hair bright blonde, and her eyes an emerald green. She kicked my arm back through the bars with her heels, and scoffed.
"Whats this that showed up at my door step. You dogs are all the same, straight to violence, all bite! Have you ever thought of barking for once, a conversation could save your lives", she said in a sarcastic tone. I tried form words but, I couldn't seem to move my mouth.
"I'll be back once the effect has worn off, I'd like to have a chat. I hope you take the opportunity, or I'm sure you and I both know what will happen to you if you dont", I watched as she got up and walked off after that. I heard the click of the lock on the door, and the dungeon was silent once again as I slowly lost consciousness.
