The boys walked into the dark and dreary office with their heads down. They new fully well what was going to happen. They were prepared. They were used to being shut away and being forced to hide their feelings. It was okay at the start, when the fanbase was small and no one picked up on the connection. However as the fanbase grew, so did the rumors, which caused management to grow more tiresome and more aware of how they would force the boys to act and behave. As the boys sat down in seats there was an unusual silence in the room, up until Richard started talking. “Boys, I think you know why you’re in here today. The unprecedented popularity of ‘Larry Stylinson’ is not good for the bands image. We have had this conversation time and time again, however you still insist on behaving inappropriately. This behavior will not get this band anywhere. The closer you two are, the worse the band will do. You need to be heartthrobs and you need to be available. Girls need to sit behind their computer screens and believe that one day they can get you. This won’t happen if you’re gay.”
As the curly haired boy stayed deadly silent, the older and more confident boy was not afraid to speak his mind. “Fans will love us for who we are and if they don’t then we don’t want them as fans at all. I don’t want this career if I have to live by these rules and not be able to be true to myself. I have been stopped from expressing my feelings for boys to my family because of your rules and I’m sick of it. I’m out of the band if I can’t be with Harry.”
The grey haired man chuckled from behind his desk. “You signed a contract boys. It will cost you £10 million each to get out of this contract. And if you’re out of the contract, the other three boys will also have to pay that fine. You aren’t going anywhere.”
This truly did shut the sassy Doncaster boy up. He became unusually quiet as silence filled the room. Both boys were silent in their thoughts. Louis turned to Harry but he did not look back. He continued to look at his fingers as he contemplated his future. This was his dream to be in the position he is in, with the fame he has. Would he give up the friendships he made and the dreams he had achieved for a relationship with Louis? Louis, noticing the younger boys silence and reluctance to speak, spoke softly to Richard. “What do you want us to do?”
Richard laid his hands on the table, capturing the boys’ full attention. “One of you needs a girlfriend. It isn’t going to be Harry because we need him to be single. The girls love him the most in the band so to put him in a relationship would be suicidal for your career. So Louis, you need a girlfriend.”
The boys remained silent, shocked by what had been asked of them. They expected to be told to tone down the public displays of affection but this was the opposite. How would they survive with a girl in their lives? How would Harry survive when Louis was spending more and more time with this ‘girlfriend’ of his. Both boys knew it would rip apart their relationship, and that is exactly what management wanted. Louis, as usual was the first to speak, “And this girlfriend? How do we get her? Why would a girl want to be in a relationship with a gay man? Are you planning on paying her for her services as a beard?”
Richard sat there in thought. Maybe he hadn’t planned this whole thing through one hundred percent, but he could improvise. “We’re willing to pay but I think that would be illegal and could tarnish your image if it ever came to light. So why don’t you find one? Maybe you are gay but you’ve had girlfriends in the past, you know what you’re looking for.”
“I’ll pick her.” Harry says, finally breaking his silence. His voice was raspy and dry as the words fell from his mouth. Louis turned to him in surprise and made a shocked face but Harry made sure to reassure him. “I have friends who will do this for me. They’ll help me if they need to and I’ll ask them. I actually can think of the perfect girl for you Louis.”
This last sentence broke Louis’ heart. Harry was taking this seriously, like it would be a real girlfriend, but it wouldn’t. Louis wanted a real relationship with Harry while he was having a fake relationship with a girl but obviously Harry felt differently. Although he was younger, he was much wiser. He wasn’t oblivious to the strain on his relationship and if he set Louis up with a nice girl then at least it would leave his mind at rest. He wouldn’t be worried of them ever falling in love, he knew neither of them would do that to him. Getting over the shock of Harry’s offer, Louis said, “Who is she? Do I know her?” Richard followed Louis’ questions up with a statement of his own, “We’ll have to meet her first. See if we approve.”
Harry looked Richard straight in the eye and said, “She goes to Manchester University near my home town. You’ll both definitely approve because she is clean cut, pretty and a nice person. Her name is Eleanor Calder.”
