The show has received mass amounts of praise for originality and acting. Everyone on board of the project believes a Tony nomination is in the air.
On this day, we're having our first matinee performance. It has been a week since the packed premiere and me running away from Darren. I've all but tried to avoid him because of running away. I'll hide behind curtains, vanities, and even people. People from the company have been all a buzz about Darren singing with some mystery girl. I'm too mortified about being such a startled coward. No one runs away from Darren!
Instead of journeying by taxi to Gershwin, I use the subway. In my opinion, it is the most superior way to travel within New York other than walking. I discover a seat, I walk to it quickly. Now, I won't be jolted so far forward by standing. I am sitting by a man reading the book Anna Karenina. I don't seem to notice who it is until I get thrust forward by the metro going into gear. I feel a hand touch my shoulder, again, like last week, I feel the sudden sensation of goosebumps over take my body.
"Woah! Are you okey?" I hear him ask.
I look up and discover it is Darren. Dark, long curls, glasses, and his attra tive voice to the rescue. Speechless, all I manage is a miniscule smile and a nod. I then sit up. Then I notice him regarding me.
A move a hand in front of Darren's face, he comes out of his case.
"Sorry! I feel like I've seen you before," Darren says.
I answer, " I think it is because I'm working on Soul Sister doing Bree Thompson's make-up."
Darren smiles and says, "That sounds about right, but wait...Are you the girl who was singing " Somebody to Love" after the premiere?"
I stare at the ground sheepishly, feeling that beautiful sort of embarrassment, I beam, and nod.
"My God! I found you mystery girl! What's your name?" Darren exclaims.
I finally look up and reply, " My name is Quinn."
"Do you have a last name, Quinn?"
"Estell, " I smile as if I were laughing.
"What about a middle name?"
I burst out laughing, "Woah! Woah! Augustus Waters alert!"
Darren is also laughing with me, "Alright, Quinn Estell...So happy to finally make you acquaintance."
We shake hands.
"It is also nice to meet you Darren," I am really trying not to faint or fangirl.
There's still silence, but Darren breaks it.
"Quinn, you're an amazing singer...I had to join someone in song with a voice like yours.....You're so passionate about it too....I'm sorry for startling you," Darren says.
I smile, "Thank you...I wasn't startled, but surprised that Darren Criss joined me in song."
Then he says, " I also can't help but shake off the feeling that I've seen you somewhere else...Other than within the show."
Darren gets an expression on his face that gives the signal that tells you he's deeply pondering something.
I joke, "I'll give you three guesses, Darren."
He exhales and says finally, " I'll get this one out of the way...Somewhere around New York."
I make the sound of a buzzer that tells you the answers wrong.
Darren goes back to deeply thinking about it.
"You have two more guesses," I say.
Then Darren gets it, "I know now! The Glee Project!"
I reply by smiling and exclaiming, "Bingo!"
Darren smiles, "It is great to see someone still striving for the stars, after probably feeling as if their dreams were crushed."
"Actually, Darren...It did quite the opposite for me...It made me strive for success even more."
Darren nods and whispers, "You would be a better Catia than Bree."
I counter, "Anyone could be a better Catia!"
We then keep exchanging jokes until we get to Gershwin.
"I guess this is where we say goodbye for now, Darren," I say.
"I'll see around right, Quinn...I've had such a great time talking to you!"
I nod as I open the back door, I gesture for him to go in. Darren thanks me and goes in.
I feel my cheeks flushing and I begin sighing.
I hear a voice behind me, "I saw that."
I turn to discover that it is Leah.
"Who didn't?"
Leah laughs, "You know, as I told you before, Quinn...I could see you guys together."
I smile.
"You know he has a girlfriend, Quinn."
I feel tears prick my eyes and then I begin to sob, "I know."
Leah hugs me and says, "Shhh..."
She brings me inside and brings me to Bree's room. She goes to the small mini fridge under the vanity. I give Leah a confused look.
"I've learned that there's usually a mini-fridge under the vanity."
Note to self: Mini-fridge under vanity.
I see two chilled shot glasses and Leah pours in a clear liquid. She walks over to me and hands me one of the glasses. Again, cue look of confusion.
"What is this?"
"Just drink it, Quinn! It'll make you feel better," Leah says and I obey.
I chug it then instantly spit it out.
"Again, what the hell did you just give me?" I am exasperated.
Leah answers, "Tequila."
I try to get the flavor out of my mouth...Failing epically!
Leah grabs a bottle of water and hands it to me.
"Do you drink any hard liquor, Quinn?"
I shake my head, "I don't really drink at all....Unless I my occasionally margarita or vodka soda, Leah."
Leah nods but then asks, "Do you feel better, Quinn? Now that's the question."
I shake my head, " No, not really."
"Want to have a girl chat?"
I didn't know whether or not I should answer that question.
"Not really, Leah." I answer. "I'd rather sing it out."
Leah takes my hand and brings me to the stage.
"Just let it go, Quinn!"
I sing the song "What's the Name of the Game" from Mamma Mia. Then, when it is over, I still don't feel better, so I continue. I then sing "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen. I let out all my emotions through both songs. Passion really does make you feel better. I did get yelled at by Bree. I then hear another voice sticking up for me. I realize soon afterwards that it is Darren. If I ever get the chance, I must thank him. I work quickly as I can on Bree. It is strange that no matter how first I work on someone's make-up, it still ends up looking pretty good. Bree then goes out to start the show. I stay within the dressing room crying and drinking a small bottle of vodka. Chugging it every second. Darren could never or would ever fall in love with it. No matter how much I desired it.
