On the island of Menagerie, an old woman with dog-like features watched with a smile as the giant crate filled with fresh produce was carefully set down inside her shop...
"Thank you so much for the help, Shiro. I don't know if I could have unloaded all this by myself in such heat. Please, feel free to take yourself an apple or two if you'd like."
Shirokuro shook his head.
"I appreciate the gesture ma'am, but that won't be necessary. Now, if you'll excuse me, I must be on my way," Shirokuro said with a polite bow. His response carried a sense of formality and respect. The woman's smile never wavered as she watched the young man head towards the exit, but not before grabbing a hold of his weapon, a double-bladed great sword that he dubbed "Will" and resting it over his shoulder...
As Shirokuro stepped out of the quaint shop, he was greeted by the hustle and bustle of Menagerie's vibrant streets. The lively market square was a kaleidoscope of colors, with stalls selling exotic wares and the air filled with the delightful aroma of various cuisines. Shirokuro took a deep breath before navigating through the crowd, his tall and imposing figure garnering various glances, some good, some bad. However, any sense of unease felt by the residents was put to bed by the emblem of the "Menagerie Guard" engraved onto his belt, a symbol of protection, and order.
[Shirokuro "Toji" Kumo: (Narrating) "My name... is Shirokuro Kumo, though for the sake of simplicity, most just call me Shiro."]
A group of small Faunus children ran by Shiro, laughing all the while, their furry tails wagging with joy. Shiro's usually mutual and stoic expression softened as he watched them. Feeling a set of eyes watching him, that same stoic expression would return as he peered at a group of would-be troublemakers eyeing him from a nearby alley. Tightening his grip on "Will" one piercing glare from Shiro was enough to cause the group to disperse, scattering like leaves in the wind. Satisfied, Shiro continued his stroll through the market...
[Shirokuro "Toji" Kumo: (Narrating) "I live for one purpose, and one purpose only; to serve and protect the Belladonna family, and by extension, the people of Menagerie."]
"Well don't just stand there, go say something to him!" A deer Faunus shouted as she pushed her friend forward. The friend, a squirrel Faunus with a jumpy demeanor, stumbled forward, her bushy tail twitching nervously...
"Aren't you the girl I helped a couple weeks ago?" Shiro asked.
The girl blushed furiously as she placed both hands on either side of her face, peeking through her fingers. "Y-yes, that was me! You helped put away a group of thugs that were extorting my grandfather's shop. I can't thank you enough for that." she explained.
Shiro raised a hand to try and ease her nerves.
"No need for thanks. Part of my job is to—
Seizing the moment, the girl would cut Shiro off before he could finish his sentence.
"WILL YOU PLEASE GO OUT WITH ME?!" she asked with a bow, much to the surprise of her friend who was still watching the interaction from afar. The sudden shout caused some heads to turn in their direction, curious about the commotion.
Shiro, momentarily taken aback by the bold proposal, blinked in surprise. This wouldn't be the first time he'd found himself in this exact situation, and he doubted it would be the last. Letting out an exhausted sigh, he would then give her his answer...
Hours Later
Kali Belladonna nearly spat out her tea as she leaned forward with both hands on the dining room table.
"AND YOU SAID NO?!!!"
Wincing slightly, Shiro sat across from Kali, the wife of Menagerie's chieftain Ghira Belladonna. He calmly sipped his tea, maintaining his cool composure before responding.
