Chapter 6

(Kali)

I have to keep moving!

I jumped awake, expecting to be buried in snow. Instead I was under some covers, in a soft bed.

Have I been saved?

I looked around. I saw the bars of the cell i'd been locked in before now with two guard standing before it. the cage itself had some changes as well.

I was in a bed, a high quality one at that. The cage had been decked out to resemble more of an actual room. There was now a desk, bookshelves, a lamp, a sink, even a toilet with a privacy curtain.

"She's treating you with kindness, id appreciate it and take whatever offer she has to give you" the guard spoke,

I guess he noticed when I woke up

He went back to chatting with the other gaurd and my stomach growled once more. With that followed stabbing pains and dizziness. I was hungry, starving at this point. I didn't have the energy to do more than sit up in the bed.

I guess escape in this state isn't really an option.. i didn't even make it far enough

I wanted to plan more, to think of a different way out of this, but all my mind could focus on was food. I needed something... anything to eat. My head started spiraling..

But to be a slave to a creature of this sorts is worse than any torture or death...
But how long will it take me to die... to be in this kind of pain matched with my regeneration is a far worse fate
But-

I argued with myself back and forth, all towards the one conclusion I didn't want to make. Make the deal.
I didn't want to think anymore, and layed my head back into the soft pillow.

I was rudly awakened by an aching pain in my mouth, ears and back. My body was transforming very slowly. The full moon was close. I touched the tip of my teeth, it pricked my finger. I examined my body in bed and saw as hair had sprung up slightly all over me. I always hated the transformation, it was a pain like no other.

To add to my suffering the stabbing pains and hunger came back, and I couldn't take it anymore.

"Get her here i'll make the deal!" I called out to the guards, one walked out slowly, taking his time to see me suffer longer than I already had. 

I was now holding onto my stomach in an effort to alleviate the pain, rolling and wreathing in bed until i eventually fell to the floor and laid there. Too weak to get back up.

I heard heeled steps enter, and she appeared before me Infront of the cage. I watched as Cassandra quickly unlocked the cage doors, and walked in. She towered over me as I remained to weak to move from my position. She handed me the contract paper with a smile. 

"I'm so glad we could come to an agreement Ms. Kali Barker" she placed the contract on the floor next to me, and took my hand. 

"Blood is needed in order to seal the deal, a simple prick of your finger by your own will, will suffice" She pulled up on my lips and looked at my newly sharpened teeth, and brought my hand close to my mouth.

I placed the tip of my finger on the tip of my tooth and pressed down, i felt the blood run down my finger, and watched as she gently grabbed my hand once again and pressed it up against the paper. 

"Sign your name please" she asked.

I traced my name in blood, and I saw as the paper glowed, then changed from white to black, the words and blood on the paper now a full red. My eyes widened as I watched it happen. What was this. What had I just done. But my mind quickly put those thoughts away as she looked toward the cage entrance. 

"Bring it in boys" She beckoned to the guards who quickly scurried out of the dungeon, then reappeared, holding trays full of food. I perked up, the smell flooded my nose and I'd never been so happy in my life. I attempted to sit up, using my arms as a balance, but I fell back down. My body couldn't function properly. 

"Don't move, I'll do it for you dear" she said. To my surprise she gently scooped me into her arms and place me back in the bed. I felt my face heat up as, She told the guards to place the food on the desk and leave. She took one of the trays and placed it in my lap. I moved my hand to start digging in, but she held it down, grabbed the knife and fork and starting cutting into the steak she placed before me. She took up a piece, opened my jaw with her hand and placed it inside. I bit down, and tasted heaven. She fed me like this a few more times until I started to eat on my own. 

"I'll be back tomorrow to go over the contract with you, but for today I feel as though u deserve a nice moment for all the torture I put u through'  She said as she got up, and walked out of the cage, locking the cage doors behind her. The guards walked back in, and stationed themselves back Infront of the bars. I continued to dine until both trays were finished. 

I felt full for the first time in years, maybe this wasn't such a bad decision. 

I got up, and finally took a small walk around the cage. I examined the few books on the shelf and my eye got caught by one that was old and dilapidated, Our History , it was titled. As I took it from the shelf one of the guards said 

"Ah, Our History, i read that book when I was turned, spoiler alert... it doesn't end well" 

"Turned?" I asked, wondering what he meant. 

"You'll learn soon enough" he said, and then turned back to talk to the other guard once again. I sat at the desk to start reading. I was intrigued, If I'm going to be stuck here, I need to at least have a better grasp of what's going on. 

The book itself was old, made of leather and worn pages. The writing written in rushed pencil. It follows the journey of two men, Lazuras and Dracula, sent by the king to explore the unexplored. The story jumps from place to place as multiple pages had been ripped out. It was confusing, but the ending was what confused me the most. Both men were starting, and eventually it seems as though Dracula had planned to cannibalize Lazarus. Lazarus who was fast asleep at the time was awoken by Dracula chocking him out. Lazarus stabbed him in the heart with a wooden stake, and left his body to rot. When he was on his journey back, he went back to where he had left the body, but the body had disappeared. When he returned back to the kingdom, he had "visions" of Dracula in the night watching him. The rest of the story ends there, as the ripped pages make it hard to understand the words "Bite, turned, blood" repeating too much for anything that happens past this point. 

It didn't bring me closer to any understanding of what they were, but it was a way to distract myself from the situation. I closed the book and put it down and plopped myself back in bed. My mind kept going back to Her holding me in her arms, opening my mouth and feeding me. As i played back the memories i wonder

As i remincesed, a pain started in my legs that quickly spread to my whole body. I had been so caught up in the short lived moment of happiness I forgot what I had to experience every month. 

The full moon must be out right now

I thought as I tried my hardest to ignore the pain and focus on transforming. I could hear my bones shift, crack, and grow. It started in my legs, the twisted and turned into large paws. It spread to my spine, that grew longer and bigger. The hair on my body grew rapidly, my mouth and skull contorted and extended, the worst of the pain. My vision, my mind spun as I was slowly losing control. The guards were yelling incoherent words at me, as I tried to transform as quick as I could. I closed my eyes, as I hoped for it to Passover.
