Entry 2
Day two of my having this journal. Writing about what I'm feeling helps to calm my nerves. Now I see why Natalie does it.
Cortex allowed me to take another break, being as he doesn't have anything for me to do. I am also finished with my experiments, or at least for now.
Anyway, there is something I have been meaning to get off my chest but haven't had the courage to tell anyone. Something happened a few years ago that I still won't speak of. Tech was around the age of ten.
I remember it as though it had happened yesterday. I was working on repairing the Warpinator upon Cortex's request, but I was interrupted when someone knocked on the door of my laboratory. I immediately stopped what I was doing and went to open the door, and Tech stood on the other side. I allowed her to come in, but she did not utter a sound.
"What's wrong?" I had asked her.
But she still did not speak. You can call me paranoid if you want, but this concerned me greatly. She just stared at me blankly, as though her soul had left her body. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised. Anything could happen these days, and I speak from experience.
The two of us waited in awkward silence for a few minutes, until Tech finally moved her head to avoid eye contact with me. That's what I believed she was doing, anyway. Was she upset with me? Did I do something wrong? I couldn't recall a single time that I had ever gotten on her nerves. I was more confused than anything.
After a while, she finally looked up again and stared me right in the eyes. I remember her telling me that nothing was the matter, but I could tell that wasn't the case. I continuously asked her what the matter was until she finally spilled the beans.
To this day, I am terrified from what she said next. She proceeded to explain that she was still frightened of Natalie. Tech could feel a dark presence emanating from Natalie. I assured her that everything would be fine. It is a known fact that Natalie possesses dark magic - she got that from her mother, whom she has never met (it's a long story) - but she prefers to use it only for emergencies. I don't blame her, really. If you had been corrupted by your own power multiple times, you'd choose to do the same.
Tech smiled at me. It was gentle, and it warmed my heart instantly. That look she often gave me was enough to lift my spirits. Cortex, as great as he is, will never understand me. He still often tells me that this "mushy" stuff, as he calls it, is a complete waste of time. This is one of the rare instances when I don't listen to him. I know he despises children, but he was a child once. I don't think I'll ever quite understand why he feels that way.
Much to my surprise, Tech gave me a hug. I returned the hug as I repeatedly told her that everything would be fine. With another smile, she left the room. I was smiling as well, and it never left my face as I continued my work.
I know what a lot of people out there believe, that children are all immature and think that they are better than their elders. But not Tech. She is much different. She just wants to see the best in others. Natalie was like that once, but lately she has been acting rather strange.
That doesn't matter. The thing that matters the most to me is happiness. True happiness. Tech certainly does a great job of providing that.
