Karan: Thank you sir 🫡
Batra Sir: At ease, Karan. I am very happy that post my retirement, this responsibility has been given to you. You have given so many sharp soldiers to this country via this academy, you are the most deserving one.
Karan: Thank you, sir. Sir, you have selected a successor for your chair but we still need to backfill my role.
Batra Sir: Yes, we do. Do you have any recommendations?
Karan: Yes sir. I do have a recommendation in mind. I think Monami will fit well as the trainer. She can balance her empathy with strict training routine, and be the best mentor to the next batch of civilian trainees. She was the best cadet of our first batch and knows what it takes to clear a program like ours.
Batra sir smiled: I knew it Karan you would recommend Monami only. By the way, I already reached out to her and offered her the role. Actually I gave her two options - Parakram SAF Deolali or Parakaram SAF siliguri. Actually Special Agent Kartik is also getting promoted this year, so he has a vacancy as well.
Karan: but Monami is comfortable here in the Deolali. Siliguri will be very far to her.
Batra Sir: that's her decision to make Karan. And she picked her choice instantly.
Karan: So she picked Deolali right?
Batra Sir: She picked Siliguri. I am sorry Karan. She made her choice. You can make another recommendation or we can also hire externally.
Karan was surprised.

Batra Sir: No, I have to make all decisions by 7 October
Karan: So she has two weeks to change her mind?

Monami's confession and Karan's rejection. Things were never same between them after that. Monami stuck to her promise and never forced her love on Karan. She stepped back and completed her training with best cadet award. She tried to never make it awkward for Karan too.
But still Karan always felt the guilt. Monami behaved more maturely post that, more controlled. He missed her innocence and her natural openness.
He last saw her 3 weeks back - on the culmination day of her batch of cadets. She was ecstatic on her "best cadet" award. She had asked Karan for a last dance.
"Aapko music samajh aane laga hai" she had said, recollecting their first dance where she had requested him to place a hand on his heart to feel the music.
Karan felt at ease dancing with her. He couldn't stop looking at her laughter.
