Parties are Weird.

The cool fall air tousled Jessica's hair as she waited for her friend out side her house. Pulling her brown hair back into a pony tail, her friend came barreling around the corner on her bike. Riding up to Jessica, Marie smiled, out of breathe. "Are you ready!" She asked quickly. Jessica nodded putting on her helmet. "So where's the place again?" She said as she got on her bike and followed Marie. "It's the old farm house, off Rocky Point. Hurry, it begins soon!"

Jessica watched Marie's red hair bounce up and down as they made their way down the street. Using one hand to steer, she held her sweatshirt shut with the other. Soon, concrete gave way to gravel, and gravel turned to dirt, until they found the old and rusted sign. Peeling letters still said, "Welcome to Rocky Point, the most beautiful place here." Getting off their bikes, they found the hidden path that lead to the farm house.

"I'm so excited!" Marie said. Her blue eyes were wide and full of wonder. "You should be too Jess, this is your first senior party!" Jessica shrugged and kept walking. "You know I'm not one for parties, I'm only going 'cause you suckered me into it." "Oh lighten up," said Marie. "You're gunna love it. There'll be food, games, and probably some stuff we shouldn't have." She winked, before hoping on her bike and braving the treacherous path.

Jessica continued to walk as her friend disappeared around a bend. She could faintly hear music, and the occasional laugh as she got closer.

The path opened up to a wide field, with a run down farm house near the edge. Jessica leaned her bike against what looked like the remains of a wooden fence, and headed towards the party. The music was blaring, and in the dimming light she saw some kids waving glow sticks around.

Marie bounded up to her, with a styrofoam cup in one hand, and a giant cookie in her other. "You should come try these cookies Jess!" She exclaimed. "They have this giant plate of them, and I swear, one was bigger than my head!" Jessica laughed at her friend, she was always so excited about everything.

"Yeah, they are pretty big." Jessica spun around to see who had spoken. It was a boy, probably eighteen, wearing a worn out grey sweater. "Sorry, didn't mean to scare you, just thought I'd share my opinion on the cookies." Jessica stood there quietly, while Marie talked to the boy about cookies.

"Well, I need some more water, be right back!" Marie said, rushing off. Jessica stood there awkwardly, the boy had not moved, and he seemed to be studying her. "Name's L." He said, sticking out his hand. "Hi, 'L'. I'm Jessica, you can call me Jess." She said, taking his hand. Soft hands. She thought. Wait, why am I thinking about his hands? A smile seemed to flash across his face, or maybe she was imagining it. "So, um. Is L like a nickname, or..." She trailed off. "In a way." He said.

L put his arm around her shoulder and led her deep into the mass of kids eating, drinking, and dancing. She was uncomfortable with how close he was to her, all she knew about him was his name, and even that wasn't much. "Party often?" He shouted over the music, leading her to the food table. "No." She shouted back. "This is actually my first Senior party" "What?" He said, leaning closer. He smells like smoke and beer. She thought. She repeated what she said, and he nodded.

Leaning closer to her ear he whispered, "You'll have the time of your life at this party, it'll be fun as hell." He grinned before grabbing a handful of chips and walking off. She stared after him, the world had gotten strangely muffled, and his whisper seemed to linger in her ear.

"JESS!" The world seemed to pop back into normalcy, and she noticed her friend standing next to her. "You ok? That's, like, the eighth time I've called your name." "Yeah, yeah, I'm fine" she said, some what disoriented about what happened. "Well come on, the sun's already set, and it's nearing ten." Marie said, pulling her away from the food table. "There's a game going on over here, you need to watch!" "Yeah, ok." Jess said, and followed her friend towards the outer edge of the crowd.

From inside the barn, leaning against a rotting beam, L watched Jessica from the shadows. "Prefect" he said. The rotting beam gave away, and he caught himself before he fell. He brushed off his sweatshirt muttering, "I meant to do that."
