PROLOGUE (?)

Sounds emitted through, from out the shelter. None of us dared to move or squeak, let alone breathe. My back was plastered to the wall, my face too contorted in fear to even show the slightest of discomfort.

A couple dozens of children littered around the place, squashing each other for the luxury of a spot against the wall. It was safest there. The least away from the bullets.

One might think it would be best to run around in the centre, a greater chance of not getting shot, a greater chance at escape. But it wasn't, because no one escaped. This way, against the wall was the best. It offered something better. A chance at survival.

A THUD ricocheted through, followed by another. Shit, they were serious. We knew they'd come, but you couldn't blame a child for hoping. But that was the problem, there was no hope. We should not have hoped. Child or not.

We knew they'd come...and they did. We knew what was inevitably about to happen. We braced ourselves. Not by looking at each other, or making some time to print out the memory of what might have been the last time we all saw each other.

No, we closed our eyes. We shut out the world. The horrid world, as if we could simply do so, and it would disappear...

A/N: 223 words...damn, it's quite a short prologue. Yeah, sorry if this thing makes like 0 sense. It'll come together soon....hopefully 😅.
