After everything that happened last year in Woodsboro, Vanya had left town since there was nothing and no one left there for her. When she woke up in the hospital and her Aunt told her that her brother was dead she of course cried but they were mostly tears of relief that he could no longer manipulate her into all the killings and horrible things she did.
Once Van set up shop in another city she contacted her Aunt and tried to redevelop the relationship they had before. It isn't easy but they are taking it in strides, and one of those strides is her going to therapy which Sidney set up. Her and Mark found the best therapist in all of New York because they wanted to give her the best chance at recovery.
Since Sidney couldn't be in New York with Vanya she had Gale watch over her and during these months she learned that Dewey and Gale had kids twins to be exact. Van became closer with the twins over the course of the past year and they consider each other good friends. In order to try and restore Vanya's life back to somewhat normal she applied to colleges that she didn't think she would be accepted into but she was.
Van got accepted into Blackmore university where she met her now girlfriend Loreala Romano. Loreala became the light that Vanya needed in her life at the moment with how loving and protective and fun and supportive she was, She could even see her self falling for the Romano girl but for the moment she still had very much lingering feelings for Tara that she hoped would go away sooner or later.
