It's been 5 years since I truly learned about the cruel world. I am now 13 years old and nothing has changed.My mom works until she drops to support me and my brothers, and my dad got emotionally abusive.Attacking me with his words that were made to cut deep as he begged my mom for money to get him another fix that she always ends up giving to him.
I love my mom more than anything but after a while that little girl who learned to put on a smile and act like everything was okay died and turned into me. I'll shut down and hide away in my room where nothing can get to me.Ive became angry and bitter at home. "Why was this my life?" I always seemed to ask God."What did I ever do to deserve this as my life?! I'm sorry for whatever I did for this to be it, how can I fix it, and how can I make this end?" I cried to him every night before I go to bed.
Going to bed was never a safe haven either.He always comes back at night so angry...I can hear him yelling from downstairs "LET ME SLEEP HERE ITS MY HOME" he'll say as he tried to push past my mom to get in.Always so scared I'll walk to my oldest brother room to wake him up.My big brother Angelo, my protector.
He runs down the hallway as I follow him down the stairs but sit at the top hiding behind the railing.Angel pushed our father away from our mom as she cries for Angelo to stop; to just let him in. She always gave in so easily. At moments it felt like she cared more for our father than for us.That night he slept on the couch and she went to sleep next to him...I couldn't sleep that night knowing how she always chooses him.
