An unexpected friendship

I awoke to my phone ringing loudly in my ear. I must have forgotten to switch it to silent last night. It was my manager. "Hello" I said as I answered the phone. "Hey May, Rachel has phoned in for tonight with a problem with her brother again, would you mind filling in for her?" "Of Course I don't mind, beats being at home bored anyways". He laughed down the phone "Okay May, I'll see you in a few hours then okay". "Okay Dan, see you soon". I hung up the call and checked the time. 530pm. God had I really slept that long on my day off. I groaned loudly and went about my usual routine before hitting the café nearby again.

I finished my meal in record time before paying my bill and leaving a generous tip as per usual. I stepped outside and started walking the usual way to work when the smell of freshly cut grass and vanilla hit me. Why was he here again? I kept on walking hoping I didn't see him. I thought I was in the clear when I felt a hand touch my shoulder. It shot through my body like electric currents bringing me to life. I gasped at the connection and just as quick as it happened it stopped. "Wow, I never knew touching my mate could feel that good". His angelic voice whispered so close to me, it made the hairs on my neck stand up. I glanced around and almost melted into those eyes the colour of honey-suckle.

"Hey" He said. I didn't know what to say but I knew I couldn't stay here to get attached to him and give the bond time to snap into place. "Sorry but I've got to go, I'm busy". His smile disappeared as he processed what I just said. I turned back around and started walking again at a brisker place. My heart ached even though I didn't know him. But I couldn't go back to that life, I just couldn't. As I continued walking I dared to glance back and there he was following slightly behind me. I picked up the pace and he matched my speed. It was never ending every turn I took. He was there until I had hit my limit.

"Why are you following me?" I said angrily as I turned my body fully to face him. He looked startled for a moment before grinning like a bobcat. "You said you were busy so I thought I could at least walk with you to make sure you got there safely. "Well I don't need a bodyguard and I certainly don't need a stalker. Goodbye!" I started to turn around again when I felt his hand grab mine and spin me to face him. "Why are you avoiding me?" He said in barely a whisper. I was trying to think but with him standing this close to me and the currents running through my body from his touch made me lose my focus. I couldn't concentrate. I felt him step closer to me, closing that gap between us even smaller. His scent was overwhelming. I had to try my best not to whimper from the proximity. "You didn't answer my question sweetheart?" He asked as he reached his hand out to move a stray lock of hair out of my face.

The feeling of his fingers brushing my cheek was intoxicating. I wanted more, but I needed to stop this. "I'm not avoiding you specifically, I'm avoiding this connection. I don't need a mate" I said harshly. I felt his hand drop and his face looked shocked. I felt my heart crack along with his. "How about just a friend, nothing more". I looked into his eyes to see the hopefulness of what he had just said. I didn't think I could reject him again. "Fine, what's your name?" His smile returned in full force "The name is Aaron" he said while holding his hand out for me to shake. I rolled my eyes at him and said "I'm going to be late for work though so I best go" His smile remained as I turned around and walked the rest of the way to work.

I never checked behind me to see if he was still there, I could still smell that delicious aroma which reminded me of a spring day. I got to work and pushed open the door and went straight to the back room to get ready. I picked my red two piece lace suit with my white suspenders for tonight. I quickly put on my makeup and let my hair down to swarm around my body. I had just finished when I heard the DJ announce to the crowd. "Now everyone welcomes Angel to the stage" I stepped out and walked to the pole. I was dancing to Rachel's music tonight so I sped up my pace and added more dance moves to keep the style. The crowd whooped as I worked my way around the pole and curved my arse to the music. I felt that familiar set of eyes on me that I knew belonged to him. He was watching me. The thought sent a shiver up my spine so I progressed with my show looping in and out of the crowd. Dancing and showing off my body to the men. Till I reached the table he was sitting on. I continued my dance and his eyes glanced over my entire body. I heard a low growl coming from him as the song came to an end. The crowd applauded loudly as I went backstage to get changed back into my clothes.

"Thanks for picking up tonight May, Here's your money for yesterday and tonight." Daniel said as he handed me an envelope with money in. "Thanks Daniel, you know I enjoy being here but I have plans tomorrow remember so no ringing me" I said sternly as I looked at him. He laughed whole heartedly before saying "Of course, don't worry I won't phone you". I stayed at the bar for a bit longer and enjoyed a coupled glasses of gin before finally calling it quits and going home.
