The studio was dim, the only way the room was lit was by the computer in front of them.
It felt cozy, being together after Hongjoong had disappeared into this exact studio alone for the last two months.
But now, his older roommate sat next to him, focused on the loops playing on the screen before them. The 808 and drums making Seonghwa's feet bounce to the rhythm, eyes closed.
Hongjoong watched him carefully, playing with the hem of his black shirt.
He didn't know what it was that made him this nervous.
Maybe it was the way he had realized that he may like his roommate more than he should when he barricaded himself into his studio.
Maybe it was the way that they were sitting this close, knees touching in the small space in front of the desk.
Maybe it was the way the white oversized shirt sat on Seonghwa's torso, revealing his collar bones in a way that drove Hongjoong crazy.
Or maybe it was because he had produced this song, thinking of how Seonghwa would sing to it.
And the way the blue light shone so brightly at his face to make him look almost angelic, contradicting the darkness of the room around them, didn't make the way he felt right then any better.
But then again, Hongjoong was the one who brought himself into this situation.
He had asked if Seonghwa could help him decide if this song was good enough to be released.
Well, maybe he only wanted to see his reaction first-hand and alone.
Because originally, this song was supposed to only be for his ears alone.
The sound faded and Seonghwa slowly opened his eyes to meet Hongjoong's.
"And?" Hongjoong broke the silence in almost a whisper. "What do you think?"
Seonghwa hummed, looking everywhere but at Hongjoong, tapping his foot lightly. If Hongjoong wasn't so focused on his facial expressions, he probably would've noticed that Seonghwa, too, was nervous.
It had been two months without any private contact except when the group went out or ate all together.
The situation didn't make them uncomfortable, quite the opposite actually. But it felt weird, getting to meet each other again in private when Hongjoong even slept in his studio just a mere 20 hours ago.
The silence almost felt unbearable as Hongjoong waited for a reply, fingers still playing with the hem of his shirt, trying to busy himself before his mind could wander to all the negative possibilities how this conversation could turn out.
But Seonghwa then looked at him, eyes meeting after such a long time. A smile decorated his face and Hongjoong couldn't help the way his heart skipped a beat.
The way his normally big, round eyes became crescents and his toothy smile showed, it felt like it lit up the whole room.
"It's perfect. I can't wait to record it. The lyrics are also beautiful," Seonghwa finally said, pointing at the lyric sheet in front of him.
And Hongjoong let out a relieved sigh, giving the other a small smile back. "Thanks. I think we'll record it in like a week or so because we still have some details to perfect but I also thought it was pretty decent."
