Chapter 77
August 24th, 2021
Scarlett’s POV
“Baby, have you seen my phone?” I ask Louri. “In the kitchen,” she replies. I head downstairs and see it’s on the counter. “Thank you, I was going crazy trying to find it. What do you have planned today?” I ask her. “Well, I haven’t finished much of the remodeling in the kitchen since I was deployed and everything so I was thinking of sanding down the cabinets today and putting down a coat of primer and paint.” She tells me. “Ooo yes I can’t wait! I know it’s going to look great,” I say to her. “Yes, so I will mostly be out in the workshop today if that’s ok?” She asks. “Of course baby I know it makes you calm when you do your projects,” I say, giving her a kiss. “If you need me you’ll know where to find me,” she says and grabs her cup of coffee and heads out back. I take this time to start a load of laundry. It’s crazy how much clothes the kids go through but they’re always outside playing and I can’t get upset at that. We want them to have as normal of childhood as possible, even with their mom being an actress and mama a Lt. Colonel in the Marines. I grab the basket and baby monitor since Thomas is napping and head down to the laundry room. As I’m walking downstairs I hear Devon and Louisa and Maya playing in the playroom. “Hey you three whatcha up to?” I ask, leaning against the door frame. “We’re playing grocery store with the new set Uncle Chris got us,” Devon says. That man spoils the heck out of these kids. “Sounds like fun, I’ll be in the laundry room if you need anything,” I say to them, making them nod and go back to playing. I walk into the laundry room and start separating the clothes.

Louri’s POV
I turn on my Bluetooth sound system in the workshop and start grabbing the cabinet doors and laying them on the sawhorse tables and begin sanding them down. I get into a rhythm of sanding each cabinet door, preparing them for priming. We decided to do black cabinets with a white tile backsplash and white marble island that I’ll be putting together another day with Chris’s help. I get down the first coat of primer and let it set. I walk over to my blueprint of the kitchen notating all the new additions. It won’t take me long to complete since I’ve already installed the new fridge and oven range. As I’m penciling some things in I hear a knock on the door and look up to see Chris. “Hey, what are you doing here?” I ask, walking over to give him a hug. “Well it’s been a while and when I came by Scarlett said you were out here working on the cabinets.” He tells me. “Yes, I just got the primer down on the doors and was just going over the blueprint.” I say to him. “Need any help?” He asks. “Well since you’re here and you offered, I wouldn’t mind you helping me put down the coat of paint,” I say to him and hand him a paint can and brush. He grabs the materials and starts working on the cabinet doors. Since he is working on that I head into the kitchen and disconnect the waterline to the sink and start to remove the old sink. Scarlett walks into the kitchen and sees me lifting the sink, “well that’s extremely attractive,” she says, making me laugh. “Glad I could be of service,” I say as I carry the sink outside. I walk into the workshop and grab the new sink and bring it inside and install it, turning the water back on. “It’s coming along very nicely,” Scarlett says. “Yes it is and it’s even better now that Chris is here,” i say to her. “Should I call Shanna too?” Scarlett asks with a chuckle. “Wouldn’t hurt, she always likes to get her hands dirty,” I tell her, making her nod and grabbing her phone and shooting a text to my sister. Devon walks into the kitchen and notices the cabinets are gone, “what happened to the cabinets?” He asks. “I took them down because we are painting them a new color,” I say to him. “Oh that sounds like fun can I watch?” He asks. “Sure, your uncle Chris is in the workshop right now,” I say to him and he runs out back. “He loves his uncle Chris,” Scarlett says. “Yes he does,” I reply and give her a kiss. I grab some water bottles from the fridge and head back out.

Shanna shows up with bri and she heads into the workshop. We put together the hardware on the doors and bring them inside and Shanna brings them inside and starts drilling them back into place. Since Chris is here we decide to carry the new island marble countertop and put it in place. After a couple more hours we are finally finished. We are all sweaty and achy from the work but I am extremely happy with it being finished. “Babe! Come check out the new kitchen,” I shout to Scarlett. She walks downstairs and gasps. “Wow you guys did an amazing job” she says, looking over everything. She walks over to the island, swiping her hand across it, admiring it all. “Thank you, wouldn’t have gotten it done without the help of these two,” I say pointing to Chris and Shanna. “Thank you both so much for helping Lor, I know she would’ve done it by herself but with your help it got done quickly and she’s not half dead,” she says chuckling and wraps her arms around me and gives me a kiss. “Ew gross,” Shanna and Chris say at the same time, making us laugh.
