"It's so cold now."

In the shared chamber of the twin princesses, they were holding each other in an embrace, not because it was a freezing night, but it was because their current situation was enough to send chills down their spine.

Things have seemed to go down south in their Kingdom of Castieldor.

In the past months, the supposed heir to the throne Prince Tieran had fallen into such a fatal disease, that even their royal healer, who was known to be the most powerful healer of Castieldor, was even brought to his wit's end. And the only knew the cure was too far away in the mountain-ranges of Cassiopeious.

And that was not the end of it, for their stubborn parents- Emperor Tarquin and Empress Eurynoma decided to set the night out to find the so-called cure for their son, despite there being no proof of it not being a hoax. The royal couple promised to be in touch with them to let them know they were safe, but several days went by with no word from them, and their twin daughters were left behind in their bare castle- terrified.

"I- I'm terrified, Ada." said one of the twins while clutching onto her sister's shoulders.

"Stay strong Nyota, we must," Ada said to her sister, trying to reassure themselves.

The young twin princesses, Ada Soleila and Nyota Iridessi were practically in the safest situation, but they felt as if they weren't. No one could blame them, however, could they? They were merely ten-year-olds who were forced to act maturely about the continued series of unfortunate events.

"Do you think they will be ok, sister?" Nyota weakly asked, trying to hide a sob.

"I hope they will be, but I cannot be so certain either." Ada solemnly replied while stroking her sister's back.

"if you say so..." Nyota mumbled to herself.

Silence had filled the chamber, except for the tapping snow on the glass of their room. However, the tapping got louder.

A storm has reached them, meaning it was heading towards the mountains.

Nyota saw her sister's misty grey eyes and ebony streaks of her hair glow into a shade of dark wine- it was luminous magic energy, which was usually a sign of immense worry, and Nyota knew it was because of the storm, by how she stared at their stained-glass window.

As a young wielder of magic, controlling emotions was a must- because of how one's magic especially of a royal's in the Kingdom of Castieldor, is connected to their emotions and must be contained to avoid big outbursts of energy.

"Ada...?" Nyota looked at her twin, who immediately averted her gaze and looked at her, and her eyes and hair dimmed.

"Nyota." Ada's voice faltered as her hair and eyes surged again. "Father and mother..."

They pulled each other into a tighter embrace, terrified for not only their lives and their brother, but for their parents too.

"We last heard that they've taken shelter in the mountains... who knows what could happen to them once the storm reaches them...?" Ada continued, her voice shaky as ever.

The two sisters knew that they were helpless, so on that night, they cried themselves to sleep.

--

The following morning, the sisters were wakened up to have their breakfast in the banquet hall-- it was hollow as ever, knowing that it was just the two of them along with their servants since their brother was bedridden.

The new feeling was strange- usually, it wouldn't be this quiet or hollow in the banquet hall because the Emperor, Empress, and prince would be by their side discussing the kingdom affairs- but it was too impossible now, knowing that things were changing.

It would've been complete silence if it weren't for the sound of cutlery gently scratching against the plate, but that was as loud as a whisper.

Nyota felt her stomach turn just thinking about the events that have been happening.

Ada stared at the window, seemingly lost in thought as she was glowing luminously once again.

"Sister, you must eat. Not a single morsel has been touched ever since the last minute." Nyota said, noticing that her sister's plate indeed hadn't been touched.

"I'm sorry, I suppose I shall eat now." Ada apologized, and her aura of light died down as she plucked out a grape from the small cluster on her plate and took a nibble out of the fruit.

The silence took over the room again, and their time for breakfast ended.

As they left the banquet hall, Nyota gently took her sister's hand, which felt cold.

"Sister, shall we go to the library?" Nyota said, smiling a little. Going to the library has been their favorite pastime as they'd usually escape there to play hide-and-seek after their tutoring sessions, read their favorite stories, and huddle by the homey fireplace.

"If you'd like to," Ada said nonchalantly and held her sister's hand as they headed to the castle's east wing.

--

"It was then that the warlock Altair took the circlet from the Prince of Beryldome's severed head, and he was granted  great power- making him unstoppable..."

Nyota was continuously reading their favorite book of myths; but trailed off when she noticed that Ada seemed to pay no attention to the story, but rather glared at the stained glass of the wide window that was overlooking the mountains of snow. Nyota also noticed once again that Ada's aura was radiating.

"she seems to be in such worry for mother and father..." Nyota sighed sadly, as she closed the fairytale and wrapped her sister in an embrace- causing Ada to snap out of her thoughts, and slowly cause the mystical light to die down.

"Nyota-?" Ada said as if she was startled by the embrace.

"I got you Ada, will be fine alright?" Nyota said as she rested her head on her twin's shoulder, who nodded slightly, and sniveled in the cold yet dear hold of her sister.

"I got you too, Nyota," Ada murmured.
