Warning for more serious theme of losing offsprings.
Tenko gave a small breath as he sniffed along the three remaining eggs. It made his heart hurt just thinking that he had lost another three already. But no matter how loud he yelled and cried the Siren still took his eggs away.
His brain would have known that it was for the best since they had gone bad and one turned completely hard and therefore was infertile or the embryo in it had died. But still. His instincts yelled at him every time as he watched him. All his instincts cried out for him to protect his younglings.
He gave a small sigh and purr afterward when he inspected his eggs. He fanned put his tail to make sure they were warm and protected. He loved his younglings so much. And it ripped his heart out every time that one of them would be brought away, knowing that it would have never hatched.
The Siren had no other choice but to get rid of the eggs that had gone rotten or maybe gone infertile. It hurt the Siren to see his Mer in so much mental pain. But he took care of the Mer as much as he possibly could.
Rei would sometimes come around and visit. Every time she would leave just as upset for every time she visited, there were always a few eggs lesser which made her sad. Reminding her of how she only had three eggs left until the very end and she only had one left for her second litter. And Shoto had a small kink in his tail because his egg was damaged.
The Siren swan to the cave and smiled as he watched his Mer and the little three eggs left that were hopefully bound to hatch very soon. He was so excited but also so worried. He had brought his Mer some food as he set it down and stayed away from the nest and his mate. Giving him fresh shrimp.
The Mer hissed when he saw the Siren come near. He lifted his body up as his fins flared up, but when he saw the food he watched him cautiously for a moment before he bend down to eat the food. His mind calmed down as soon as the food hit his tongue and so did his body. The fins moved out of the way.
He moved his head up after a moment and moved towards the other. Sniffing around with his nose and mouth. "More?" He asked gently as he nibbled lovingly on his cheek and then kissed his lips.
The Siren chuckled as he kissed his lips back in return and nodded. "I'll go get more." He reassured and gently moved away from him before he sprinted out of the cave.
About 15 minutes later. He returned with a lot of shrimp and rather large cat fish which he began to open up and give the meat to Tenko and even feed with his own hands. He made sure to be very careful and not seem like a threat in any way to Tenko nor the eggs.
The Mer was hostile when he saw the other again but as soon as he was offered food he calmed down and snuggled to his side. He ate the shrimps and even shared some meat with his mate.
He then pushed the mate towards the nest as he smiled and moved to the eggs. He wrapped his tail a bit around but mostly presented the eggs to his mate, hoping he liked that he had taken care of them. And he deeply hoped that all his eggs were still alright.
The Siren smiled brightly at the eggs his mate presented to him as he chuckled softly. Snuggling and nuzzling against his beloved mate as he admired the eggs but didn't touch them nor move towards them. "You're doing such a good job at taking care of them." He cooed and kissed his mate.
The Mer gave a smile. "Thank you. I just hope that...that they survive. I don't know when they will hatch. But I hope that when they do they are healthy." He smiled as he looked down at the dark grey eggs. He could only smile at them and then his mate.
He had been taking care of them for quite a while. And he could tell that the sea was turning warmer again. He hoped that his younglings would hatch soon.
