An Old Friend

I sat there staring at the name that appeared on my phone.

Maybe: América

It had been so long since we last called that her contact information wasn't up to date. I never thought I would speak to her again, so I didn't bother updating it. Her name sent me spiraling into all of the possibilities that could have followed when we left high school. I felt as though I was transported back to the first day I had noticed her.

I was so lost in thought that the call had ended and she was sent to voicemail. Panicking I grabbed for my phone that was placed upon the concrete section as Rose's Garden Shop. In time to see the message she had sent after the failed call.

Maybe América: Hey how are you?

I wasn't too sure if something beneficial would come from me replying so I decided the least I could do was to update her contact. América Diaz-Lopez. No emoji's like before and no nickname since we were no longer as close as we used to be.

I slipped my phone back into my jacket and put my right glove back over my hand. After grabbing the three beautifully assorted table centers, I returned to my car. I struggled slightly getting them all to stay since I insisted, I did not need a box from Ms. Bush. She had known how stubborn I can be before she offered.

I arrived about 15 minutes later than I was told to but as if knowing me too well, Nick did not mind. He was everywhere and said he had no time to stress over my tardiness since he knew I would arrive.

It was a day we had been waiting for since Liam and Nicholas first started dating. Which had been over 5 years ago today. They weren't going to get married the same day they had started dating, but I can be quite convincing. Also, Nicholas and I had been best friends since the 7th grade so I would hope that affected him just a little bit.

The day had started at 4:00am sharp. There wasn't much we needed to do, but since Nicholas left the guest list open and unconfirmed we had to make room for 10 more people and left an open table just in case.

We had one hour until curtains, and I still had to get into my gown. My gown was a light blue with white embellishments all over. It wasn't anything too extravagant but it was insanely beautiful and it made me feel pretty.

I went into the bathroom and began styling my hair. I had in goddess braids, and it was newly braided, so I decided to tie back to pieces on each side of my hair to tie down the princess look.

I then called in Marissa so she could do my makeup. She started with primer, and I zoned out until she was finished. I had never really been too focused on doing more than eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner, blush, and lip-gloss so I only knew how to do so much. This is why I needed Marissa to tie the look together, she didn't wear much makeup, but she was a makeup stylist and I ended up looking stunning.

It was going to be Nicks mom walking him down the aisle, but I was going to be by his side after he arrived to the alter.

I went out to grab my dress and Nick was getting his last few touches down on his suit. I grabbed my dress rushing back into the bathroom to change. Marissa was stepping into her dress that was quite similar when I entered. We both ended up needing help so it was such a relief that she was there.

We made small talk about how much had changed from middle school to now and it was all for the better. Most of it anyways.

When we got out of the room Nicholas was all finished and we couldn't help but to tear up. He looked the most handsome I'd ever seen and I felt like I was giving him away today as well.
